Kerala School Holiday 14 December 2024 Due to Rain Updates: Orange alert in 3 districts, state under yellow warning

Kerala School Holiday 14 December 2024: As the heavy rainfall persists in the state, the district administration units of various district is likely to announce the Kerala School Holiday of all classes for December 14. While official confirmation from the state government is still awaited, there are indications that schools in certain districts may observe a holiday on this date. Several districts have been issued red and orange alerts of heavy rain for December 14 in Kerala. As per the IMD predictions, heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning is highly expected on the same day.

According to the latest data released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a red alert has been issued for various regions of the state, including Pathanamthitta, whereas, an orange alert has been issued for Thrissur, Kottayam, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Thiruvananthapuram predicts heavy downpours with thunderstorms throughout the day.  In light of the IMD's alert, the school holiday in the affected districts will likely be extended to December 14, 2024.

Bulletin issued by IMD indicates extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places to occur in various districts of Kerala state. The following is the list of the most affected & red and yellow-alert announced districts where the Kerala school holiday can be declared for December 14:

• Pathanamthitta
• Thrissur
• Kottayam
• Kollam
• Thiruvananthapuram
• Idukki
• Alappuzha

The holiday, if announced, applies to all schools in the affected districts, including government, aided, and private institutions. Parents and students are requested to stay indoors and avoid travelling unnecessarily during the period of heavy rainfall.
