The Kariavattom Campus of Kerala University will soon be transformed into a brand new centre of excellence. Modern classrooms will be constructed for this centre and a 24-hour library with digital facilities will also be incorporated.
The university has been allotted a budget of Rs.300 crore to revamp the Kariavattom Campus and build a digitalized facility for students. The fund for the new centre will be prom the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), informed K H Babujan, Convener of Finance Committee.

The detailed development proposal will be sent to KIIFB. Apart from all the high-tech facilities, the campus will also have a botanical garden and a heritage village that will be called ‘Kerala Gramam’. The village will be established to mark the 60th anniversary of the state formation.
A multiplex will also be constructed on the campus for the chancellor. This multiplex will comprise a heritage museum, wellness centre, digital centre, start-up centre, amphitheatre and international centre. Chancellor's Award worth Rs.5 Crore will be used for this purpose.
The district information centres at Kollam, Panthalam and Alappuzhawill also be revamped to create facilitation centres, added Babujan. The university is also planning to digitize the exam sections. An international university summit to enhance student exposure to international communities is also on the to-do list of the university.

A mineral resource laboratory for the department of geology, Raman spectrometer for physics department, advanced nanophotonics laboratory for the opto electronics department and botany department’s biodiversity conservation centre are also in the pipeline of the institute.
