KVPY Aptitude Test which was held to provide fellowship for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science has been discontinued from the ongoing year 2022. KVPY Fellowship are now subsumed with INSPIRE programme.
KVPY 2022: Putting on an official notice on the KVPY’s website, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) working under the Government of India conveyed that KVPY Aptitude Examination will be discontinued from the ongoing year 2022. Instead, the fellowships granted under KVPY will be subsumed with INSPIRE. However, all the ongoing fellowships under KVPY will continue to receive the same as per the existing norms.
“DST has decided to subsume KVPY with INSPIRE.” The official notice at kypy.iisc.ernet.in reads. “KVPY Aptitude test will not be conducted from the year 2022 onwards. Ongoing KVPY fellows will continue to receive fellowship as per norms from DST.”
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) was a National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences under which the candidates who qualify the KVPY exam will be granted financial aid for their higher studies until pre-Ph.D levels. The fellowship was granted for B.Sc, B.S, B.Stat, B.Math, Int.M.Sc, and M.S in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.

With the merging of KVPY fellowship under Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE), the fellowship will not be awarded through any examination. As INSPIRE relies on the existing education structure and its efficacy for the identification of talent, the same will now follow for KVPY fellowship programme.
As per the criteria of INSPIRE fellowship, the selection of candidates is held through a two-tier process under which screening of eligible applicants is done by an Internal Committee and the final selection is later carried out through an Expert Committee.
Aside from the fellowships, KVPY exam was also used by some of the topmost institutes in the country like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) for admissions into UG and PG Integrated courses which now is also scraped along with KVPY Aptitude Test.
