Venkatesh Murthy, a Professor at IIM Rohtak Rohtak has taken the initiative to teach the lesser privileged.
Apart from teaching Business Environment at the Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, he has started to devote two hours of his every day to the children of rag pickers in Rohtak, who are otherwise deprived of formal education.
“Seeing the excitement on the faces of the children is quite satisfying, but a sense of responsibility is also there. I wish the children continue their studies and would never like any of them to get pulled from the school and put back into rag picking,” Dr Murthy said.
Murthy explains how it was a tough task convincing the parents of the rag pickers on how teaching their children is for their own good. He shares his journey from a single student to now teaching sixty students and how he build a communication bridge for the students of Assam and Bengal who initially could not speak Hindi. After teaching them Hindi alphabets and other elementary concepts he also got 11 of them admitted in a nearby government school.
