QS World University Ranking 2023: IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay & Delhi in Top 200, Performance of Indian Institutes

QS Ranking 2023 has been released, and 41 Indian Universities were featured as the top universities globally, IISc, Bangalore holds the first position amongst all the Indian Universities, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.

The QS World University Ranking 2023 was declared on May 8, 2022, by Quacquarelli Symonds. India holds 41 positions in the QS Rankings 2023. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, is the leading university in India, which stands in the 155th position on the QS Ranking 2023. Following the IISc, Bangalore, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi secured the 172nd and 174th positions respectively. Three universities/institutes of India have now been placed in the top 200 colleges globally. Earlier, in the previous year, there were only 35 institutes in the QS Ranking, making a steep rise, India has made 6 more positions with a total of 41 universities.

Also, on the research front, IISc, Bangalore holds the first place in the Citation Per Faculty (CpF) which is used to evaluate the impact of research by the university. Apart from this, three other institutes managed to get positions in the top 50 CpF. IIT Guwahati holds the 37th position, IIT Roorkee holds the 47th position and the University of Madras holds the 48th position for CpF for research and innovation.

Commenting on the matter, the Senior Vice President at the QS Ranking, Ben Sowter states that this reflects the work and effort the Indian Universities are putting into making a global statement and leaving their footprint. He also adds that, while India is emerging rapidly in the research sector, it still lacks the adequate expertise of the faculties of the Universities.

Further, in the QS Rankings 2023, the statistics show that 12 of the universities moved up the ladder, and 12 retained their positions, while 10 universities declined. Also, there were a total of 7 new entries on the list. IIT Bombay moved up to five positions and IIT Delhi made a tremendous jump forward by 11 positions. Some other universities that made their place in the QS Rankings 2023 were: the University of Delhi, Anna University, NIT Trichy, Amity, OP Jindal, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Milia Islamia, BITS Pilani, Osmania Unversity, and others.
