The third convocation of School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Vijayawada took place on August 23, 2018. Vice President of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu was the Chief Guest of SPA Vijayawada convocation. Firstly, he inaugurated the newly constructed building of SPA Vijayawada and described the new premises as an iconic building and eco-friendly. He cited that the beauty of building coupled with the duties of the faculty members will be an excellent combination to look forward to.
Addressing the graduating students, Venkaiah Naidu pointed out that a large number of opportunities await architects which they must try and grab. Apart from getting employment, the students must become trendsetters with their innovative ideas. He hoped that SPA Vijayawada students would play a significant role in the development of the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh – Amaravati .

Vice President further advised students to focus on sustainable development. Developing the new capital city is a challenging task and the architects must take it as their responsibility and work towards preserving the nature and culture for a better future.
Governor of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Shri ESL Narasimhan pointed out that architecture has been a part of Indian civilisation since Vedic time. For instance, Adharvana Veda refers to Architecture as ‘Sala Nirmana’ . Students need to research on Vedic knowledge to know more about architecture, he explained.

ESL Narasimhan advised the students to stick to the code of conduct and say ‘no to illegal constructions’. In all, architects have a greater responsibility towards the society, he added.
As a part of convocation ceremony, 237 graduate and postgraduate students received degrees in architecture.
