Now three post graduate courses science courses will be available for the students at Centre for Science Education and Research under Nitte University (NUCSER). These three courses are:
- MSc in biomedical science
- MSc food safety and bio-technology
- MSc in marine microbiology and biotechnology
The courses will be available at the Paneer campus of the University near Deralakatte and will commence from the month of August. The center will be headed by Indrani Karunasagar, scientist and researcher of international repute.
According to the teaching programme decided by the University, the foundation subject will be common for all the three programmes in the first semester.
In the second year, students will focus on their specialised subjects and then in the final year, full time research on relevant topic.
Genetic disorders, cancers and other such non infectious diseases are going to be the focus of MSc biomedical course. These courses have been designed for training the students seeking a career in diagnostics/research labs or companies related to the field of biomedicine.
Food safety and public health will be some of the things to be focused on in MSc food safety and biotechnology. The students will be able to gain an understanding of how microorganisms associated with food can affect human health.
Importance of marine eco system will be taught in MSc marine microbiology and biotechnology. Students will also gain hands-on practical experience in their field of study, Indrani Karunasagar said.
