It is considered a National Holiday in 25 states and union territories. Therefore, apart from schools, the banks will also remain closed on April 14, 2025. The Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, Department of Personnel and Training, has declared a holiday on the account of the birthday of Dr. BR Ambedkar and has asked to take necessary actions.

Since Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was an architect of the Indian Constitution and is also widely known as the champion of social justice, the holiday will be observed in most schools in India to honor his contributions to the country. Alongside Ambedkar Jayanti, several regions in India in the states of Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu will be celebrating their New Year. Hence, in these regions, April 14 will be a holiday aside from Ambedkar Jayanti.

Declaring via an official circular, Deputy Secretary of India, Praveen Jargar, has declared a holiday for Ambedkar Jayanti in all central government offices, including industrial establishments. Parents and students must note that while the holiday is officially declared and will be followed in most schools across the country, some private institutions may hold classes, including summer camps and extra classes, and the government holiday will not be applicable across such events. Hence, parents must contact the officials of the school where their children are admitted to get the holiday calendar issued by them and to get confirmed updates on whether that specific school will be closed or not. Apart from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti, schools are expected to remain closed even on Good Friday, 18 April, and Parshuram Jayanti, 29 April.
