With a vision to create quality healthcare and wellness for their communities, Dr Damaceno J. Ago founded AMEC Bicol Christian College of Medicine in 1980. Claiming to be the number one producer of the brightest medical professionals in the Bicol Region, AMEC BCCM is a pioneer medical school. The institution is accredited by internationally recognised statutory bodies like NMC (National Medical Council), WHO (World Health Organisation) and CHED (The Commission on Higher Education). The school is also affiliated with two government hospitals, namely Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in Legazpi City and Bicol Medical Center in Naga City.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The campus of AMEC Bicol Christian College of Medicine is situated in the Legazpi city of the Philippines. The infrastructural resources at the institution are available for lectures and laboratories to ensure practical knowledge. The Damaceno Hall at BCCM houses a world-class SamrTeach e-laboratory. According to the institution, SmarTeach is the latest addition to the learning materials and a revolutionary tool that is the smartest way to study medicine. With an integrated approach to teaching, this tool is a simulation of about a thousand tutorials, references, practice quizzes, animated videos and exams. Maximising time utilisation and containing organised lectures, the tool provides computer-based exams making it well acquainted with the advancement in medical education.The library at the university is well-stocked with study materials to facilitate students learning. In anticipation of the growing strength of its students, the university is involved in the construction of several buildings.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Bicol Christian College of Medicine is an esteemed member of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges Foundation and the Foundation of the Advancement of International Medical Education & Research. The college also has strong international tie-ups with the American Center for Investigative Cardiology (ACIC) in Washington DC, Kobe International University of Japan and various international NGOs to provide medical surgeons for the poor. In its own community, BCCM has joined hands with Barangay Sogod in Bacacay and the city of the health of Legazpi.
Student Diversity & Employment Opportunities
Cognizant of the competency and academic performance of AMEC BCCM, the intake of international students at the college has increased. Candidates from countries like India, Somalia, Nepal, South Africa, Nigeria, the United States of America, Myanmar, etc join the college, resulting in a diverse pool of students. For decades now, the college has been producing dedicated physicians. In fact, the outcome-based curriculum of BCCM is so effective that about 85 percent of the government positions in district hospitals, medical centres and RHY in the Bicol region are filled by its graduates.
