In a recent milestone development, the German consulate in Mumbai declared that there has been a reduction in the National and Schengen visa fees which will benefit Indian students as well as those who wish to travel to the country.
The German National visa fee is now INR 6,000 for adults and INR 3,000 for minors whereas the Schengen visa fee is INR 6,400 for adults and INR 3,200 for minors.
The National visa allows students to study in Germany and is also used for employment purposes. It is issued for a duration of more than 90 days. On the other hand with a Schengen visa which is a short stay visa, one can travel in any Schengen area including Germany for 90 days total within 180 days.

An official from the German consulate said that visa fees depend on the foreign exchange rates and students fall under the National visa category. The fee has been reduced by INR 300 as earlier the fee was INR 6,300 for adults and INR 3,300 for minors.
Also, Indian students need to have their academic records assessed by Academic Evaluation Centre (AEC) and obtain an APS certificate from November 1, 2022. This will authenticate their degrees and their eligibility to study in Germany.
