Harvard University has launched a free online entry-level course on the introduction toComputer Science. The course is delivered by David J Malan through edX, which covers programming language skills including Javascript, Python, HTML, SQL, CSS and C.
It can be completed within 12 weeks, for which a student would be required to spend somewhere between 6and 18 hours per week. Topics such as algorithms, resource management, software engineering, abstraction, security, data structures, web development and encapsulation are covered in the programme.
Problem sets in the programming languages are inspired by real-world domains of cryptography, forensics, gaming, finance, and biology. Students who manage to score a 9 problem set and a final project will be considered for a certificate, for which one has to pay a fee of $199.

Overall, the contents of the course are aimed at teaching students how to think algorithmically and find solutions to programming problems efficiently, how to network with a community of like-minded people with several years of experience, how to develop and showcase a final programming project, build a robust understanding of programming languages and computer science.
Along with David J Malan, the online course will be taught a computer science professor at Harvard John A. Paulson, Brain Yu and Dough Lloyd.

Also, Harvard Summer School will conduct all 2021 courses online in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier in 2020, the university ordered all residential students to vacate the campus and continue the semester remotely.
