The Indian student body is increasing rapidly in Germany. In 2022, 34,134 students went to study in the country which provides numerous opportunities to international students.

Indian Students in Germany Increase Despite Visa Delays

As per reports from the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, the number of students studying in Germany increased from 17,570 in 2017 to 34,134 in 2022.

Education in Germany is subsidised by the government and international students do not require to pay tuition fees in the state-funded universities making studying in the country a lucrative opportunity.

Moreover, the medium of instruction is English in most of the top universities in Germany. Moreover, the stay back period is 18 months during which students can hunt for job opportunities.

Since the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been delays in visa processing which is an alarming concern among Indian students.

Besides, DAAD has announced the mandatory submission of the APS certificate which must be submitted with visa applications from November 1, 2022. Students will receive the certification after the German evaluation centre assesses their academic records. Many students are afraid that this will slow down the visa processing and will lead to more delays.

Recently, the German ambassador to India Philip Ackerman noted that about 15% of student visa applications are fake. It may lead to more visa refusals for Indian students.

Despite all challenges, studying in Germany has been observed to be profitable for students. They need to spend only around EUR 300 depending upon the university and EUR 860 for their sustenance which includes rent, food, study materials and other expenses.
