Jharkhand State government haslaunched a special scholarship scheme, which will allow meritorious students oftribal region to pursue higher education from top abroad universities. The scheme will consider students belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST)category.
The scholarship scheme is launched in thememory of the tribal leader, Marang Gomke and thus the scholarship is named as Marang Gomke (meaning great leader) Jaipal Singh Foreign Scholarship Scheme.
A total of 10 scholarships will be awarded to talented Scheduled Tribe students every year for pursuing masters or M.Phil programmes in leading foreign universities like Manchester University,Oxford Universityin selected areas of studies.
Eligibility Criteria to ReceiveMarang Gomke Jaipal Singh Foreign Scholarship
Following are the eligibility criteria to receive the scholarship:
- The student must be a permanent residentof Jharkhand.
- He/ She must belong to ST category community.
- He/ She must be enrolled in an M.Phil or Master's degree programme in a foreign institute.
- The course must be full time and duration of course be one or two years.
- The maximum age of the candidate must be 40 years.
- Priority will be given to students who will have some relevant work experience or teaching experience in related field.
Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren has been actively involved in upraising the tribal community in the state. Earlier, in an address topeople on the International Day of the World's Indigenous People in Ranchi, he had said that the priority of the state is the holistic growth and development of people belonging to tribal communities.
Jharkhand government already has a scholarship scheme for tribal, SC and OBC students who have passed Class 10th. Under this scholarship scheme, students have options to avail scholarship to pursue engineering and medical studies.
List of Institutes and Courses to Receive Jharkhand Study Abroad (ST)Scholarship
Scholarship will be offered to students studying in 15 selected institutions like:
- Oxford University
- Cambridge University
- Manchester University
- University ofSussex
- Imperial College of London
- London School of Economics and Political Science
The acceptable courses include agriculture, anthropology/sociology, art and culture, development studies, media and communication, environmental science, forest conservation and ecology, climate change, tourism and hospitality, law and human rights,public policy, sports medicine and sustainable development.
