The University of Massachusetts, Boston or UMass is popularly known as the Urban Research University of Boston, USA. It is the third-largest university in the state of Massachusetts and is an official member institution of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities. The University of Massachusetts, Boston is ranked 571th by the QS World University Rankings. The university was established as the Boston State College in 1852 and later was renamed as the University of Massachusetts in 1964. It has affiliations with APLU, AAC&U, and AASCU.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The University of Massachusetts, Boston offers 150+ Bachelors, Masters, Doctoral and Certificate courses to students in varied fields of STEM, Social Science and Education and Training. About 16,000 students are currently studying at the university at different levels, guided by a faculty of about 1,243 mentors and experts in a 120-acre campus. The department of Sports of UMass has 18 sports teams that participate in national and international tournaments and championships. The main funding for UG grants and scholarships come from the following:

2. Commonwealth of Massachusetts
In order to get a grant or scholarship, the student has to fill up the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the procedure to fill the application is as follows:
Step 1:
US Citizens and eligible non-citizens can fill the FAFSA form to get grants, scholarships and awards based on their profile and academic records. The student has to maintain a certain GPA to continue the scholarship.

Step 2:
After filling the application form the students have to prepare their documents and tax return statements of their parents along with the list of assets owned by the parents.
FAFSA is provided only for one year, students have to apply each year to renew their application and they also have to maintain a GPA to reapply. Grants are given on the basis of the financial need of the student, evaluated on the basis of the documents submitted by the students. If the student gets selected, an official scholarship letter is sent to them.
Assistantships
International students pursuing a full-time course from UMass Boston can apply for an assistantship, the student will have to sign a contract with the department in order to get the financial aid which may cover the following:

Federal TEACH Grant
Grant - $3,772
Duration - 1 year
This grant is given to students who plan to make a career in the teaching profession after completion of their graduate degrees. Selected students have to agree to be a full-time teacher in a low- income school for at least 4 years after graduating within 8 years of graduating. In order to get this grant, the student has to maintain a GPA of 3.25 out of 4.0.
Study-work Programmes
International graduate students can pursue a study-work program which includes part-time jobs on or off-campus. Here are the two work-study programmes available for the students:
Under this scheme, the student gets a grant according to their needs for working on a community service program approved by the university.
If the student fails to get the Federal Work-Study, they can apply for the Student Employment Program. The Student employment services list all the part-time jobs for the applicant using the Boston Career Services and inform them about it accordingly.
