KCET 2025 Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current Important Topics
The Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents are the combination of two separate chapters that are based on the principles of Alternating Current and Electromagnetic Induction. Aspirants should thoroughly understand the chapter before studying Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current for the KCET 2025 exam. Check the important topic for the Electromagnetic Induction and alternating current below:
Magnetic Flux: Magnetic flux is defined as the number of magnetic field lines passing through a given closed surface. It provides the measurement of the total magnetic field that passes through a given surface area.
- The SI unit of magnetic flux is Weber (Wb).
- The fundamental unit is volt-seconds.
- The CGS unit is Maxwell.
Faraday's law of Electromagnetic Induction: Faraday’s law of Electromagnetic Induction has two laws that are defined as:
- First Law: A conductor placed in a varying magnetic field induces an electromotive force. If the conductor circuit is closed, a current is induced, which is called induced current.
- Second Law: The induced emf in a coil is equal to the rate of change of flux linkage.
Lenz's Law: The induced electromotive force with different polarities induces a current whose magnetic field opposes the change in magnetic flux through the loop to ensure that the original flux is maintained through the loop when current flows in it.
Eddy current: Eddy current is defined as the induced current in a conducting coil when a magnetic flux is allowed to flow through it
Self and Mutual Inductance: When there is a change in the current or magnetic flux of the coil, an electromotive force is induced. This phenomenon is termed self-inductance.
Reactance and Impedance: The motion of electrons constitutes the current generation in an electrical circuit and any inertia against this motion of electrons constitutes reactance.
LCR series circuit: An LCR circuit, also known as a resonant circuit, tuned circuit, or an RLC circuit, is an electrical circuit consisting of an inductor (L), capacitor (C) and resistor (R) connected in series or parallel.
Resonance: A phenomenon in which an external force or a vibrating system forces another system around it to vibrate with greater amplitude at a specified frequency of operation.
Power in AC circuits: Power in AC circuits is defined as the amount of energy delivered per unit of time by the circuit. It is used to calculate how much total power is required to run a load. In an AC circuit, the power factor is defined as the ratio of real power (P) and apparent power (S).
Wattless Current: Wattless current, also known as idle current, is a current in an alternating current (AC) circuit that consumes no power on average. It occurs when the phase difference between the voltage and current is π/2, which causes the average power to be zero.
AC generator and transformer: AC generators are also known as alternators which convert mechanical energy into electrical energy in the form of alternating current. Kilo volt-amperes is the unit used for rating the AC generator.
