National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bangalore

National Institute of Technology, Bangalore also known as NIFT Bangalore, is an autonomous government college established in the year 1997 and is located in Bangalore, Karnataka. NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006. The college has been ranked 3rd by the India Today ranking under ‘Fashion Design’ category in the year 2024. 

NIFT Bangalore offers a total of 14 courses at the UG and PG levels. The institute offers Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Fashion Technology (B.FTech) - Apparel Production, Knitwear Design and Textile Design courses at the undergraduate level and Master of Fashion Management (MFM), Master of Fashion Technology, M.Des(Master of Design Space) at the PG level. The college provides admission on the basis of an entrance exam. The entrance exams required for admission to the NIFT Bangalore include General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) for all the courses.

The college has a placement cell for the training and placement of students. As per previous years NIFT Bangalore placement statistics, the highest package offered was 12 LPA and the average package offered was 7 LPA. Its campus has modern facilities and infrastructure including fully equipped lecture rooms, design studios and laboratories, resource centres, activity centres, hostels etc. for the holistic development of the students.

Scholarship 1: “SARTHAK” - Financial Assistance scheme for the following Under Graduate students:

A) Parental Income ceiling per annum up to Rs. 1.5 Lakhs will get 100% of Financial

Assistance in Tuition Fee.

B) Parental Income ceiling per annum Above Rs. 1.5 lakh up to Rs. 2.5 Lakhs will get 75% of Financial Assistance in Tuition Fee.

C) Parental Income ceiling per annum Above Rs. 2.5 lakh up to Rs. 4.0 Lakhs will get 50% of Financial Assistance in Tuition Fee.

Scholarship 2: “SARTHAK” - Financial Assistance scheme for the following Post Graduate students:

• NIFT honours students in three categories of Awards which are conferred at the time of the Convocation:
• NIFT Best Academic Performance Award: one student in each discipline at each NIFT Campus.
•  NIFT Extraordinary Service Award: one student at each NIFT Campus
• NIFT Student of the Year: one student at each NIFT Campus All three awards carry a citation, a gold medal and a cash component. NIFT also institutes awards in various categories for respective programmes which are given at the time of their graduation show/ presentation.
• The institute has been given the status of an Institute of excellence and thus permitted to award degrees to its students by an Act of the Parliament.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Courses and Fees

Interested candidates who apply to the National Institute of Fashion Technology are shortlisted based on their performance in the NIFT entrance exam, which comprises a Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), Group Discussion (GD), and a Personal Interview (PI). All the candidates are also requested to fulfil the eligibility criteria before applying to NIFT, Bengaluru, and be a part of the counselling session. Further admissions would be offered based on the document verification and fee payment.

The application procedure for new batches usually begins in the month of May, and the interested candidates can apply online. Candidates are asked to appear for the NIFT entrance exam and further shortlisted depending on their score.

• Interested candidates should visit the NIFT official website and click on the admission tab.
• Next, the candidates have to apply for the NIFT entrance exam by clicking on the “Application for the entrance exam” Option or they can select the tab “Admit card for written test” and take a copy of the admit card.
• For application in the NIFT entrance exam, the candidates are required to create their NIFT ID.
• Further, the candidate is required to fill in the application form with the mandatory information and upload his/her photograph with a signature.
• Candidates can pay the application amount online or offline, and they are supposed to keep a copy of the NIFT application form always.

Candidates who wish to pay the application fees offline are supposed to send the print of the application form along with the attached copy of the demand draft to the National Institute of Fashion Technology campus. 

How to Fill Out the National Institute of Fashion and Technology Application Form?

Interested candidates have to first apply for the NIFT entrance exam to secure a place at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. The procedure for the application process is as follows:

• Interested candidates should visit the official website of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru.
• Further, the candidate should click on the admission tab.
• Then the candidates should apply for the NIFT entrance exam by clicking on the “Application for the Entrance Exam” option.
• The candidates can also select “Admit card for written test” and take a copy of their admit card.
• In order to apply for the NIFT entrance exam, the candidates are first supposed to create their NIFT ID.
• Further, the candidates should fill in the application form with all the mandatory information and verify it.
• In the next step, the candidates are asked to upload their passport-sized photograph along with the scanned signature.
• Once the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru application form is filled, verified, and the photo and signature are uploaded, candidates are asked to fill out the application fees.
• Candidates can fill the application fees online as well as offline.
• Candidates who fill the fees offline are supposed to send the print of the application form along with the demand draft to the institution’s address.
• Only after the application money has been paid can the form be submitted completely. The general category application price is Rs 1,500, while the reserved category application fee is Rs 750.

While filling out the application form, the candidates are supposed to attach the following set of documents.

• The candidate should have his 10th-grade passing certificate as well as the 10th-grade mark sheet.
• The candidate should have his 10+2 grade passing certificate as well as a mark sheet or its equivalent.
• If the candidate wishes to apply for the PG course, they should have their graduation mark sheet and certificate
