B.Com LL.B stands for Bachelor of Commerce & Bachelor of Legislative Law. It is an integrated law degree program that offers both business tactics and legal understanding. 

The duration of the course is 5 years divided into 10 semesters, and the admission is based upon the scores obtained in the related law entrance exams. B.Com LL.B is a dual degree programme as it offers two different degrees to the students. B.Com and LL.B separately take 3 years to complete whereas B.Com LL.B take only 5 years. 

Students who take up B.Com LL.B are taught commerce and law subjects. The legal and commerce subjects that B.Com LL.B students study in their 5-year integrated law programme are Business Communication, Business Statistics, Economics, Auditing, Law of Contract, Consumer Protection Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Crimes, Legal Language, etc. The B.Com LL.B course should be taken up by those candidates who have completed their Class 12th and have an interest in both Commerce and Law fields.

B.Com LLB Admission Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for B.Com LL.B can be divided into two segments, educational qualification and age. 

  • The aspirants have to pass their 10+2 from a recognized board of India but students from the commerce stream are mostly preferred. But, it is not mandatory for the students to study commerce in their 10+2.
  • The minimum percentage of marks required by a college will vary from university to university. However, students from the General category should have 50%-55% marks and Reserved category candidates will need 40% marks. 
  • Most of the law colleges and universities in India prefer students who are not more than 20 years of age for the General category. The Reserved category candidates however get a relaxation of two more years for this integrated five-year law programme. Although, the age relaxation is decided by the admission authorities every year.
  • The age of the candidates is not a limiting factor for admission. Students can look for other colleges/universities where there is no age limit for admission to B.Com LL.B. 

B.Com LLB Admission Entrance Exams

B.Com LL.B is a specialised integrated course, so different law schools/universities conduct their own entrance examinations for admission to the programme. The students are shortlisted based on the marks scored in the entrance exams followed by personal interviews. However, there are some universities that do not conduct entrance exams and shortlist candidates directly based on their merits. 

In India, apart from entrance exams, some exam authorities conduct national-level common entrance examinations like CLAT and LSAT. There are other law entrance exams like APLAWCET, ULSAT, TSLAWCET, etc. Below we have described the entrance exams for B.Com LL.B in detail.

  • CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) 

It is a centralised national-level law entrance examination conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. The students who will qualify for CLAT can take admission to any of the 22 National Law Universities (NLUs). Apart from the 22 NLUs, there are some other private law schools that accept CLAT scores. The CLAT exam consists of five MCQ-based sections, English Language, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. 

  • LSAT (Law School Admission Test) India

LSAT 2022 India is a law entrance test conducted by the Pearson VUE every year on behalf of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), based in the United States of America. Quite a lot of law schools in India accept LSAT India scores for admission to different law courses. The LSAT 2022 question paper is divided into four sections and the total time duration of the exam is 2 hours and 20 minutes. The questions asked in the exam are objective type. The sections from which the questions are asked are Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and (unscored) writing. 

  • MH CET Law (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test)

Students who will appear for MH CET Law 2023 can seek admission to the integrated LL.B programme offered by various participating colleges. MH CET Law is conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell in different cities of India and is known as Maharashtra Law CET. The major part of the exam centres are located in Maharashtra, but cities like Bhopal, Jammu, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, etc also hold the entrance exam. It is a 2-hour exam consisting of 150 objective-type questions. The exam is conducted in English and Marathi languages. Questions are asked in English, General Knowledge of Current Affairs, Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning, and Logical and Analytical reasoning sections.

  • TS LAWCET (Telangana State Common Law Entrance Test)

TS LAWCET is a state-level examination held by Osmania University, Hyderabad. The entrance examination is conducted online mode for a time span of 90 minutes. MCQ-type questions are asked about Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Mental Ability and Aptitude for the Study of Law. A total of 120 questions are asked and the mode of examination languages are English, Urdu and Telegu. 

  • AP LAWCET (Andhra Pradesh Common Law Entrance Test)

Andhra Pradesh Common Law Entrance Test (AP LAWCET) is a state-level law entrance test conducted on behalf of the APSCHE, Hyderabad. The exam is held in online mode (Computer Based Test) in English and Telegu language. A total of 120 questions are asked from General Knowledge, Mental Ability, Current Affairs, Aptitude for Study of Law including Principles of Law and some portions of the Constitution of India. 

  • ULSAT (UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test)

ULSAT is a university-level examination conducted by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun every year in online mode. Students are asked questions from Language Comprehension, Quantitative and Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning, Legal Aptitude and Legal General Knowledge. The students must pass their 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks to sit for ULSAT. ULSAT is a 3-hour examination with 200 MCQs. 

B.Com LLB Admission Application Process

The students who want to study B.Com LL.B should check out the steps below for the application process. 

  • To access the B.Ed online application one needs to visit the official website and register. Applicants have to fill in their personal details such as name, date of birth, mobile number, and email id. It is important to provide a valid mobile number & email id for further processing.
  • The next step requires the candidate to log in using the credentials shared on the mobile number and email id.
  • After successful login, applicants are required to provide educational details and valid documents. It is essential to provide accurate information to avoid rejections.  All the fields marked with red stars are mandatory to be filled up by the candidate.
  • The next step is to review the information added. Once all the details have been submitted, the candidate can then move on to the payment gateway.
  • Payment has to be via online mode; using Credit Card, Debit Card, Netbanking, UPI id etc.
  • All candidates are advised to either save or print the acknowledgement/ confirmation page for the future admission process.
