The syllabus of MA in Political Science at Delhi University is approved by both Academic Council and Executive Council. The syllabus is effective for the 2022 academic session. Delhi University's  MA in Political Science program is a two-year course designed to impart core and elective courses, both foundational as well as advanced knowledge to students in the field of political science. The syllabus covers the entire spectrum of six sub-disciplines of Political Science including Political Theory, Indian Political Thought, International Relations, Comparative Politics, Indian Politics and Public Administration.The Department offers four core papers in the first semester. Whereas in the second semester, students have to opt for two open elective papers. The third semester consists of four elective papers.

DU MA Political Science is one of the most popular courses in the country. Delhi University receives a large number of applications for the MA in Political Science program. After going through a stringent selection process, the candidates secure a seat for this program. The aim of the Master’s degree program in Political Science is to provide both fundamental and advanced level knowledge of Political Science subjects. The benefit is that the learners get all-inclusive knowledge on the same. To do that, the university has designed the course with core and elective courses which include six sub-disciplines Indian Politics, Public Administration, Political Science including Political Theory, International Relationships, Indian Political Thought, and Comparative Politics. Each of the disciplines comes with special learning benefits. 

DU MA Political Science Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

MA Political Science course of Delhi University is offered with Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). It provides the scopes to select courses from the prescribed core, elective and open elective programs. Unlike the conventional marking system, Delhi University follows a grading method that helps to maintain an equal evaluation system for the entire course duration. At the end of each evaluation, candidates obtain CGPA scores determined on the basis of their performance. As the CGPA system has national acceptance, enrolling in higher studies becomes easy for them. This CGPA grade also helps the recruiters to assess the candidates’ potential easily.

Following are the course objectives of Delhi University’s MA in Political Science:

  • The DU MA Political Science course aims at providing extensive knowledge of the different sub-disciplines mentioned before.
  • The course focuses on developing the communication, analytical and critical thinking abilities of the candidates. To do that the MA in Political Science course of Delhi University has been prepared with textual analyses, statistical data, and scopes of experiential learning.
  • Apart from this, the course targets to enable the candidates to properly implement the theoretical knowledge in practical work scenarios. With a good understanding of the theoretical knowledge, candidate can show their expertise in the domains like public policy, international relations etc.
  • Other than empowering the knowledge, the course instills values and skills that can be used for the social-cultural development of the nation.
  • One of the significant objectives of the course is to make the candidates engaged in the social problems of the nations and to help them achieve the expertise with which they can bring the appropriate solutions to the respective issues.

  • It is a two years course and it is bifurcated into 4 semesters.
  • A MA Political Science candidate requires to earn 80 credits to successfully complete the course.
  • Part I is known as 1st semester which is further divided into two semesters such as Semester I and Semester II.
  • Part II is 2nd Semester which is divided into Semester III and Semester IV

DU MA Political Science Eligibility

Before we know about the DU MA Political Science Syllabus, we must know the fact that the course requires the candidates to fulfill the following eligibility norms:

  • Candidates who graduated with BA (Hons), BA ( Pass), or received a BA degree from DU or any other universities that offer an equivalent one are eligible for the course. Candidates of this category will require to score at least 50% marks in the last examination.
  • Science, Commerce, and Engineering and other degree graduates of Delhi university or other universities can apply for the DU MA Political Science course provided they have at least 60% marks in the previous qualifying examination.
  • Candidates who are eligible in terms of the above conditions need to appear in the Delhi University entrance test applicable for the MA Political Science course.
