Doing away with its re-evaluation process is proving to be a hazardous step with huge totalling errors being uncovered in the CBSE board exam result. The Class 12 CBSE result of 2017 was a shock to a number of students who scored less than half of their actual marks in some subjects. Retotalling of the marks led to the conclusion that there were huge totalling mistakes.

Some of the huge errors in CBSE Result of class 12 students:

  • Delhi-based student, Sonali, reported that she was shocked to see that she had scored only 68 marks in maths, whereas, she scored 99 in economics, 96 in business studies and 95 in accountancy. It was after the re-totalling that she got her actual maths score, i.e. 95.
  • Another student Samiksha Sharma was devastated to find out that she scored only 42 in Maths after scoring extremely well in other subjects. With the dream to get admission in DU’s North Campus, Samiksha applied for re-totalling and found out that her Maths score was 90.
  • Mumbai’s Mohammad Affan, scored above 80% in all his subjects but scored just 50 in maths. He also applied for re-totalling and discovered that his true maths score was 90.
  • Another student failed in Economics and had scored 9 marks. After re-totalling, his actual score turned out to be 45.

In the wake of such events, students and parents have begun to question the marking procedure of CBSE. Many parents have also questioned whether CBSE can justify scraping the re-evaluation process when there are so many faults in their correction scheme.

On being questioned regarding the errors, a senior CBSE Official informed that the number of applications that came in for verification of marks was unparalleled as compared to previous years, however, he didn’t reveal the exact number.

Delhi High Court on CBSE’s Re-evaluation Decision:

Delhi High Court told CBSE that they should not have scrapped their re-evaluation process as there are errors in their system as well. Responding to the statement by CBSE’s Lawyer that there are only 0.21% mistakes in the system, the Court said that even a fraction of marks in a single student’s result makes a difference.

The court further added that over 10 lakh students appear for CBSE exams each year and with 0.21% errors, the career of 2100 students is at stake. However, the Delhi HC didn’t pass any order regarding re-evaluation pleas.

Can CBSE Board Exam Answer Sheets be retrieved?

A student had appealed for re-evaluation of her answer sheet after being dissatisfied with her score. The court did not take any decision regarding re-evaluation but has asked CBSE to provide her with a copy of her answer sheet.

Parents have been opposing CBSE’s decision of linking the verification process to the retrieval of answer sheets. According to CBSE, only those students who apply for verification will be able to retrieve their answer sheets. However, the parents argue that students should be allowed to retrieve their answer sheets and then apply for re-evaluation.

Will DU Cut-offs be postponed due to these Anomalies in CBSE Class 12 Result?

DU will be releasing its first cut-off list on June 20. The mistakes in CBSE result has led to a lot of inconsistency in the procedure. Students who have received their correct marks will have to upload their upgraded percentage basis which they will be eligible for admissions in the Delhi University.

DU has not yet announced any delay in the cutoffs, however, the question remains, will DU consider these glitches and give students a fair chance at admission process 2017 or will the admission process continue regardless of the updated CBSE Result?
