8 years after IIT Kharagpur burst into the scenes, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was established in Chennai in the year 1959. Commonly referred to as IITM, the institute is the third of its kind established under Indian Government’s Institute of Technology Act of 1961. A total of 63 programmes across 5 streams are offered to the students who are able to get admission in IITM. The IITM placement cell is one of the finest among all the 23 IITs which helps the students to smoothly make the transition from college life to the workplace.
