Revision is Key

Don't keep revision until the end when you have finished the syllabus. Keep on revising daily what you studied, then weekly and monthly. You can make a personalized revision plan for your GATE ECE final stage preparation. When the GATE exam is 2 to 3 months away, dedicate these last months to revision and solving previous year papers and mock tests. The revision will strengthen your understanding of the topics and provide more clarity. Remember only revising a topic for 1 or 2 times is not enough. You need to do continuous revision during the final days before the test.

  •  Make notes of formulae on a sheet or chart paper and paste in on your wall so you can go through them when you pass by.
  • For difficult concepts use flow charts for revision.
  • There are a number of practical topics in the GATE ECE syllabus 2025. Therefore, practice numerical questions also during your revision so you know how to solve them and get the correct answer.
  • While revising the GATE Electronics and Communication Engineering syllabus 2025, don't forget General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics subjects. General Aptitude weightage is 15% and Engineering Mathematics is 13%, so they contribute a lot to the overall cutoff marks.
  • Students take the General Aptitude section lightly and consider it too easy, but it can be time-consuming so you need clarity of concepts to solve it quickly. Revision will help you gain expertise in General Aptitude.

Tips for Practicing with GATE Previous Year Papers and Mock Tests

  • Solving 1 GATE previous year question paper or GATE mock test will take 3 hours. You can't solve 3 to 4 mock tests and the previous year paper in one day.
  • Begin with solving 1 GATE previous year paper or mock test. You will complete it in 3 hours. However, only solving GATE previous year papers and mock tests is not important.
  • You need to work on your mistakes, the answers you got wrong, and your weaknesses. Take a half-hour break and then begin your paper analyzation and listing down the mistakes you made. Allow yourself 2 hours to work on your mistakes and restudy the topics for which you got answers wrong in the previous year paper/mock test.
  • Estimated time for solving 1 previous year paper or mock test and working on it will include 3 hours (solving previous year paper/mock test)+ 30 minutes (break time)+ 2 hours (for restudying weak topics)= 5 hours 30 minutes.
  • However, as you keep on solving previous year papers, your mistakes will improve and you will not need too much time for revision of topics. Then you can move on to solving GATE mock tests and GATE previous year paper in one day.
  • Once you have completed the syllabus, your aim must be to solve at least the last 15 years of GATE previous year question papers of ECE. Analyze the last 3 to 4 years of GATE previous year papers to know the repeated ECE topics and high-weightage topics of the GATE ECE syllabus 2025.

Work on Your Time Time Management Skills and Writing Speed

Improving your time management skills is one key thing you have to work on your final days before the exam. Even though you might know all the answers in the GATE exam, you might not be able to get to the question only due to poor time management. GATE paper can be time-consuming. But, you can improve your time management skills by taking the following steps:

  • Solve the full-length GATE mock tests. This will help you analyze why you are not able to complete the paper on time. It can be due to forgetting formulae, not remembering concepts, not being able to solve papers online, lack of paper-solving strategy, etc.
  • Once you get the idea about your shortcomings, you need to work on it.
  • If you are forgetting formulae, restudy them. Go through the unclear concepts again. If you are not able to complete the mock test due to the online paper pattern, you must practice more mock tests.
  • When answering the questions, start with the core ECE subject part because General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics are quite easy to solve.
  • According to GATE toppers, answer 1-mark questions first because 2-mark questions need analytical thinking and deductive reasoning.
  • You must respond to the question
  • s in which you are confident. It will help you improve your GATE scores and push you to attempt questions you are unfamiliar with.
  • You are recommended to save your answers before moving on to the next question, as the answers will be lost and cannot be redone.
  • Keep in mind that numerical problems require precision; minor mistakes can result in negative marks. Students should not solve numerical questions in a rush.
  • Give at least a few minutes at the end of the exam to cross-check the answers and correct the mistakes.

Authorities will provide you with an online virtual calculator that you can use to solve questions. In the previous year, it was noticed that not many students were familiar with the virtual calculator thus solving paper can become time-consuming. Therefore, during the final days before the exam make yourself familiar with the GATE virtual calculator.  You can download the GATE calculator app for mobile from the Google Play or Apple App Store and use it to learn how it works. The best way to know how a virtual calculator works and know where are plus, minus, multiplication and division icons are solve mock tests and you will become an expert.

Resolve Remaining Doubts

We don't recommend that you keep doubts to be resolved at the last moment. If you have any doubts, or any chapter is unclear or you are unable to solve any mathematical question, ask for help. You can get help from your teachers, mentors, or coaching institutes. You can check out the YouTube videos also to clarify doubts. All your doubts must be resolved so that you don't have any confusion at the last moment in the exam. Coaching institutes are best if you are unable to study on your own. Even if you have done all the GATE exam preparation on your own, you can still join coaching institutes. There are various Best GATE Coaching Institutes in India 2025, that offer the last 3 months, last 2 months, or last 1-month preparation courses for students. These final courses before the GATE exam consist of revision tips, doubts resolving, access to the GATE test series, important notes, etc.

Focus On Your Health Too

As the exam is just around the corner, many students take unnecessary stress and get worried about their performance. Students make the mistake of studying overnight and not getting proper sleep which can result in sickness. You have to look after your health so that you don't sit for the GATE exam with a fever or cold and be distracted. Sleep properly, eat healthy foods, you can go for evening walks. Mental Peace has been required in the last weeks. Remember that having confidence wins you "more" points than not having confidence. Make certain that you receive enough rest. Get 8-10 hours of sleep every night, especially during the week before the exam.
