More details are elaborated below.
Preparation of GMR (General Merit Rank)
WBJEEB prepares GMR (General Merit Rank) for B.Tech admissions based on the following factors –
1. GMR is prepared based on the score obtained in Paper 1 & 2 of the WBJEE examination
2. WBJEEB shall do the ranking of the participants in the descending order of total marks scored in all the subjects of the WBJEE examination.

4. For reserved categories, there will be a separate indication of merit and rank in GMR5. A special indication of merit is also made for JEE Main qualifiers who applied for B.Tech admission in West Bengal
Tie-Breaking Methodology in Determination of Merit Rank for GMR
In case of a tie between two or more students, while preparing GMR for West Bengal B.Tech admissions, the issue is resolved as follows –
- Less negative marks scored in group subjects such as Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics will be taken together
- More positive marks scored in Physics and Mathematics will be taken together
- If the tie still persists, more positive marks in Chemistry and Mathematics will be taken together
- If the tie still persists, less negative marks scores in Mathematics and Physics are taken into consideration
- Less negative marks scored in Mathematics and Chemistry are considered if the tie still persists
- More positive marks in Mathematics will be considered only for 2 mark questions
- The above rule applies to Physics and Chemistry subjects if the tie still persists
After the preparation of GMR, WBJEEB issues a notification for the West Bengal B.Tech counselling process.
