The AP ICET normalization process ensures that all candidates who took different exam sessions are treated fairly and equitably. This process eliminates any potential advantages or disadvantages that a candidate may have due to receiving an easier or tougher question paper.

AP ICET Normalization Process 2024

The AP ICET normalization process is a method used to ensure that all candidates are treated fairly and equitably during the examination. It eliminates any potential advantages or disadvantages a candidate may have due to receiving an easier or tougher question paper. It allows for comparing the performance of candidates across multiple sessions and question papers, thereby ensuring that the scores are normalized and reflect true ability. By adopting this approach, the AP ICET exam aims to provide a level playing field for all candidates and ensure that the evaluation process is transparent and unbiased. AP ICET 2024 exam was conducted on May 6 & 7 in two sessions each day and the AP ICET results have been released on May 30, 2024 . Even though all sessions were conducted based on the same AP ICET exam pattern and have questions from the same syllabus, there is a difference between the difficulty levels of the question paper of each session. Check the detailed AP ICET 2024 normalization process below.

Importance of Normalization in AP ICET 2024

Normalization is a very important process in the calculation of the results of the AP ICET exam. Normalization ensures that students who have appeared for a paper with easier difficulty do not get an advantage over those who have attempted a comparatively more difficult question paper. Different sets of question papers are prepared for each session of the AP ICET exam and even though SVU tries to maintain the same level of difficulty across all of the question papers, there are chances that some students have to face a more difficult question paper than the others. Here, the normalization process is applied to ensure that the final results are fair so that no student gets a benefit or disadvantage because of this discrepancy.

After normalization, the marks of candidates who have attempted an easier question paper may be decreased and the marks of those who have appeared for a tougher question paper may be given a slight increase. Thus, the performance of each student is measured accurately and the scores can give the correct comparison of the performance of each candidate. The AP ICET 2024 result are prepared after normalizing the scores of each candidate.

Step-by-Step AP ICET Normalization Process 2024

Normalization aims to offer a fair chance to the candidates who had to solve a question paper that was more difficult compared to the ones who got an easier paper. The idea is to rationalize ranking the candidates based on the global performance. The formula given below is used for calculating the normalized marks of a candidate in the AP ICET exam.

Normalized Marks = GMS + [ { ( TopAverageGlobal - GMS ) / ( TopAverageSession - SMS ) } x ( Marks Obtained by Candidate - SMS ) ]

The normalization process of the AP ICET exam involves the calculation of the following parameters.

  • SMS = Average Score of the Candidate's Session + Standard Deviation of the Candidate's Session

  • GMS = Average Score of All Sessions + Standard Deviation of All Sessions

  • Top AverageSession = Average Marks of the Top 0.1% of candidates of a session

  • Top AverageGlobal = Average Marks of the top 0.1% candidates across both sessions

It is also important to note that for candidates for whom there is no qualifying cutoff in the AP ICET exam (i.e. SC / ST category candidates) if the final marks after normalization go below zero, they are awarded zero marks in the exam. Normalization is a very important step in the calculation of AP ICET Results. Candidates are ranked based on their normalized scores only. If a tie exists between more than one student, then AP ICET-2024 normalization marks will be considered for resolving the tie.

Through normalization, the exam conducting body ensures that each candidate gets a fair chance at proving their potential. After normalization, MBA colleges in Andhra Pradesh and MCA colleges in Andhra Pradesh that accept AP ICET scores for admission can get an accurate idea of the performance of the candidates and conduct the admission process accordingly.

AP ICET Normalization 2024 Important Points

  • If any General Category candidate attempts to avail of the benefit of relaxation of minimum qualifying marks in AP ICET 2024 to obtain a specific rank, or claims to belong to SC/ST category, the conducting body has the authority to cancel the rank in case the claim is found to be invalid at any point of time.

  • The rank obtained in the AP ICET 2024 examination is the primary criterion on which the selection of candidates and allotment to colleges depends.

AP ICET 2024 Qualifying Criteria

The conducting authority will assign ranks to the following students in the order of the merit on the basis of marks obtained in the AP ICET exam:

  • General Category candidates securing 25% qualifying marks in AP ICET (50 out of 200), and

  • Candidates belonging to the SC/ST category to whom qualifying marks have not been prescribed

  • AP ICET scorecard will be valid for one year only.

Only the candidates who clear the AP ICET cutoff are considered eligible to take part in the counselling process. Apart from this, every college specifies its own cutoffs for admission. AP ICET colleges are divided into four categories -- A, B, C and D -- as per the cutoff ranks from high to low.
