What is CRL in JEE 2023?

CRL stands for Common Rank List, and it is a list of all the candidates who appeared for the JEE exam. The list is arranged in order of the rank obtained by each candidate in the exam. CRL is prepared based on the marks obtained by candidates in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams .

JEE Main is the first phase of the JEE exam and is conducted in multiple sessions throughout the year. It is a computer-based test that evaluates the candidate's knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The scores obtained in JEE Main are used to shortlist candidates for the JEE Advanced exam.

JEE Advanced is the second phase of the JEE exam and is conducted for candidates who qualify in JEE Main. The exam is conducted once a year and evaluates the candidate's knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in depth. The scores obtained in JEE Advanced are used to prepare the CRL.

Is CRL Rank in JEE Main and AIR (All India Rank) the same?

It is vital to understand that CRL meaning in JEE. The candidate's All India Rank (AIR) is actually the CRL ( common rank list). Candidates from the reserved categories, on the other hand, have been assigned ranks based on their categories. So, regardless of your CRL rank in JEE, you might climb up the category-based AIR list. Candidates must exercise extreme caution when selecting courses and institutes during JoSAA counselling 2023 . They must select a programme and institute based on their JEE AIR and category rank.

Why is CRL important in JEE?

The CRL is an essential component of the JEE exam as it plays a crucial role in the selection process for admission to top engineering colleges. The CRL is used to determine the rank of candidates and is the basis for the allocation of seats in the top engineering colleges in India .

The CRL is used by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to allocate seats in the participating engineering colleges. The JoSAA is responsible for the centralised counselling and seat allocation process for admission to IITs , NITs , IIITs , and other top engineering colleges in India.

The candidates who have obtained a rank in the CRL are eligible for the centralised counselling process. The JEE Main 2023 counselling process involves the selection of preferred colleges and courses by the candidates, based on their rank and availability of seats. The seat allocation is done based on the candidate's rank in the CRL and their choice of colleges and courses.

The CRL is also used to determine the cutoff for admission to different engineering colleges. The cutoff is the minimum rank or score required for admission to a particular college or course. The cutoff varies from college to college and is determined based on the number of seats available, the number of candidates appearing for the exam, and the difficulty level of the exam.

The CRL is also used to determine the eligibility for scholarships and other financial assistance provided by the government and private organisations. The scholarships and financial assistance are provided to candidates based on their rank in the CRL and their family income.

How is CRL calculated in JEE?

The CRL or Common Rank List is calculated by considering the scores obtained by the candidates in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. The calculation of CRL involves the following steps:

Factors

Details

Calculation of Raw Scores

In JEE Main, candidates are evaluated based on their performance in three subjects - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The maximum marks for each subject are 100, and the total marks for JEE Main are 300. Similarly, in JEE Advanced, the maximum marks for each subject are 120, and the total marks for JEE Advanced are 360.

JEE Normalisation Process

The normalisation of scores is done to ensure that the difficulty level of different sets of the question paper is taken into account. In JEE Main, normalisation is done across different sessions, whereas in JEE Advanced, normalisation is done across different subjects.

Calculation of Total Score

The total score is calculated by adding the normalised scores obtained in JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The maximum marks for the total score are 660.

Preparation of CRL

The CRL is prepared by ranking the candidates based on their total score. The candidate with the highest total score is given the first rank, followed by the candidate with the second-highest score, and so on.
