IIT Madras M.Tech Admission Process through GATE 2024

Candidates can check the systematic IIT Madras M.Tech admission process through GATE 2024 here: -

Admission Process for GATE Qualified Candidates: After the announcement of GATE result, IIT Madras finalizes admission offer to candidates based on merit as per GATE score and choices that are given by them in the application form. Such candidates need to attend the subsequent rounds of the admission process such as the Suitability Test and Interview.

For some specializations in M.Tech, IIT Madras will ask the GATE-qualified applicants to appear for the Suitability Test and Interview. Admission to these candidates will be offered based on GATE score, performance in suitability test, and interview.

Accepting Offer and Fee Payment: After the selection of candidates for M.Tech admission, IIT Madras will send admission offers to the candidates. The candidates will have to accept the admission offer and pay the course fee. Candidates who have already accepted the admission offer will be not allowed to take part in subsequent rounds of the admission process/ upgrade the choice.

Reporting for Admission: Candidates, who have accepted the admission offer, must submit the certificate of qualifying degree examination and join the institute within the stipulated date. The candidates are required to submit a medical fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner.

Course Fee Payment Process: After accepting the admission offer, the candidates must pay the course fee through the official M.Tech admission website of IIT Madras. The course fee for General and OBC Category candidates is Rs. 20,197 per semester (only for day scholars), and the fee for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates is Rs. 15,197 per semester (only for day scholars). Students who wish to avail the hostel facility must pay Rs. 24,280 additionally (per annum).

Eligibility Criteria for IIT B.Tech Graduates

  • IIT B.Tech graduates with a CGPA of 8.0 or above are eligible for M.Tech direct admission at IIT Madras without the requirement of a GATE score.

  • These applicants must undergo review by the respective departments at IIT Madras.

Eligibility Criteria for Sponsored Candidates

  • Candidates employed and sponsored by private and public enterprises/ government organisations/ industry, engaged in R&D work recognised by the Department of Science and Technology with at least two years of work experience can get admission in the M.Tech course at IIT Madras.
  • These candidates must have at least 60% of aggregate marks in B.E/ B.Tech degrees.

Eligible candidates can submit the online application form for M.Tech admission at IIT Madras by following the steps mentioned below: -
