Madras University is a state public university which was established in 1857. It is one of the oldest universities in India and is situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The university has been ranked 65th in the overall category and 50th in the university category in the NIRF Ranking 2023. UGC has recognised the university as one of the centres for "potential for excellence". It has also been accredited by NAAC with an “A++” grade.
There are a total of 12 courses in various specialisations available to interested candidates at the diploma, certificate, PG diploma and postgraduate levels. The admission to the offered courses is provided on the basis of merit in the last qualifying exam, except for MBA & MCA. To become eligible for MBA & MCA, interested candidates have to appear and qualify in TANCET. As per the Madras University placement data for 2022, a total of 440 PG (2-year) and 5 PG (3-year) candidates received placement opportunities with reputed recruiters.

Madras University admission 2024 for the MBA and MCA programmes is carried out based on the TANCET examination. TANCET Answer Key Objection Window is going to open on March 17, 2024 and the final answer key is going to be released in March 18, 2024.
The total student strength at Madras University in 2023 was 3,489. Out of the 3489 students, 1393 were male and 2096 were female. A total of 2,999 students (both male & female) were from the Tamil Nadu state and 480 students were from other states. There were only 10 international students at the university including males and females. 519 students were economically backward and 2,814 students were from SC, ST and OBC categories.
