MAT 2024 IBT (Remote Proctored Internet Based Test): Exam Instructions

The MAT 2024 February session IBT mode examination has been slated for three dates: February 24, March 3, and March 8, 2024. The All India Management Association (AIMA) introduced a new form of taking the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) in 2020. It is called the MAT Remote Proctored Internet-Based Test (IBT). Through the MAT IBT mode, candidates can take admission to the MAT participating colleges offering MBA and PGDM courses. An applicant needs to acquire a good MAT score in the exam as there are plenty of MBA colleges that accept the MAT score.

This new form of MAT was introduced in light of the restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown. In this new format of the test, candidates will be able to take the test from their homes by logging into the MAT server from their compatible devices.
AIMA has also issued special instructions for MAT IBT aspirants. These instructions contain all of the important information for a candidate to ensure that they have their system ready before the exam day. All of the details regarding the MAT IBT can be found given below.
MAT December 2024 IBT Exam Dates
The IBT mode of the MAT 2024 will be held on multiple dates between February 24, March 3, and March 8, 2024. Check the complete schedule given below.

MAT December 2024 IBT Exam Timings
Two shifts of MAT December 2024 IBT are conducted each day.

System Requirements for MAT IBT 2024
The basic requirements for taking the MAT IBT test are a laptop or computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection. Candidates must ensure that their laptop or PC is compatible to run the MAT IBT test beforehand to avoid any glitches during the exam. AIMA has recommended the following specifications.
Internet Requirement for MAT IBT
Aspirants must have a stable internet connection.
The minimum upload speed of the internet connection must be 512 kbps.
You can test your internet connection by logging into an email account. If you can do that without difficulty, you will be able to attempt the MAT IBT.
Internet Browsers Supported by MAT IBT
The following browsers are compatible to run the MAT IBT.

Please note that MAT IBT does not support the Edge Browser.
System Requirements for MSB
The MAT IBT will require you to download additional software called MSB (Mettl Secure Browser) on your laptop. MSB is software that helps in conducting online examinations. The following requirements have been specified for running MSB.

MSB is a tool to ensure that the online exam will be conducted securely. When the MAT IBT starts, MSB will take the following actions:
- Close all running background applications that are not required such as internet browsers, skype, etc.
Will only allow candidates to move out of the application after the test has finished.
Therefore, candidates will lose control of their laptop/computer for the duration of the test. This is done to make sure that there is no use of unfair means or interruption during the test.

Steps to Take the MAT IBT 2024
Candidates can take the MAT IBT exam by following the steps given below.
The step-by-step process of appearing for the MAT IBT has been below.
1. Launch MAT IBT
- Visit the official website of MAT 2024 and go to the option to start the MAT IBT.
The test will start in a separate window. Click on the 'Launch Test' button to start the test.
2. Select The Appropriate Option
- Candidates who do not have MSB installed on their system will be shown an option to 'DOWNLOAD MSB'.
Click on the download MSB button and follow the instructions given below to install MSB.
Candidates who already have MSB installed on their step can skip to Step 4.
3. Install MSB
- The setup files for MSB will be downloaded to your system.
Navigate to the file and open it to begin the installation process.
In the End-User Licence Terms window, check the box next to 'I agree to the license terms and conditions.
Click on Install.
The installation will be completed and the icon for MSB will be placed in the system.
4. Start the Test
- Candidates who have installed MSB will be shown the option to 'PROCEED TO TEST' in Step 2. Click on that button.
On the next page, click on 'Launch Test'.
A pop-up window will appear which will ask to launch the best on MSB. Click on 'Open MSB'.
You will be shown a system warning asking to close any unrequited applications. You can save any data and close all of the applications whose names are mentioned on the screen manually or click on 'OK" to automatically close the applications.
5. Provide Permissions
- A prompt will ask you to provide permission to use the camera and microphone. 'Click on Allow'.
In the next step, you will be again warned to close any applications that can upload or download data in the background.
Click on 'Next' to start the test.
6. Fill The Details
- A form will appear where you will have to fill in your details. Fill in your Email Address, First Name, Organization, Date of Birth, Contact No., Gender and Country.
Agree to the Terms and Conditions by clicking on the checkbox.
Click on Next.
7. Submit the Snapshot
Here, you will be asked to submit a snapshot of your face and your ID.
In the first step, align your face to the margins shown on the screen and capture the face snapshot. Click on Next.
In the second step, keep your ID within the outline displayed on the screen and capture the ID snapshot. Click on Submit.
Candidates must ensure that the room is well-lit so that their snapshots are captured clearly.
8. Wait for Authorization
The conducting body will verify the snapshot of your face and ID before you are allowed to start the test.
AIMA has specified that it may take around 2 - 3 minutes for the authorization process to complete.
In case the snapshot submitted are not clear, you will be asked to Resubmit the snapshots.
On the next screen, you will find a message from the authorizer displayed on the screen. Follow the instructions and Submit the required snapshot(s).
9. Begin the Test
- A popup window will appear displaying a warning that the test will be monitored.
Provide the approval by clicking on 'Proceed to Test'.

Remote Proctoring in MAT IBT 2024
In the MAT Internet-Based Test, a candidate is allowed to appear for the test from their homes by using their devices. Since the test environment is not controlled by AIMA, the conducting body has made use of the following tools to ensure that candidates do not resort to any unfair means.

When will the MAT February 2023 IBT exam be conducted?
MAT 2023 IBT will be conducted in five sessions on February 11, 12, 18, 19, & 25, 2023. MAT IBT will also be conducted on March 5 & 7, 2023. MAT 2023 February session exam dates have already been announced by AIMA on the official website (mat.aima.in). Online registrations for the MAT 2023 February session are currently underway on the official website.
What are the requirements to appear for MAT IBT?
In order to appear for the MAT IBT exam, candidates must meet certain technical requirements for a smooth examination experience. These requirements include:
- Network: Throughout the exam, candidates must have a reliable internet connection with sufficient speed. If they can easily log into their email accounts, that serves as a proxy for this. Uploading at: 512 kbps is the minimum speed.
- Supported Browsers: Chrome version 63 and above or Firefox version 52 and above
- Operating System: WindowsOS (Version 7 and above)
- Dot NET framework: Dot net framework is required by the MSB application. The minimum supported version is 4.5.1.Net framework

Can I appear for MAT IBT using a Macbook?
No, a Macbook cannot be used to appear for the MAT IBT exam. Since MacOS is not supported for MAT IBT, any devices that run this operating system will not be eligible for taking the MAT IBT exam. Only Windows OS (Version 7 and above) is supported when it comes to the MAT IBT exam. Apart from having a Windows device, candidates must also meet other technical requirements like a supported internet browser, network requirements, Memory/hard disk space requirements, etc.
Why should I appear for the MAT IBT exam?
One of the biggest advantages of taking the MAT IBT test is the freedom and convenience to take the test from any place and any device (Supported Devices Only). Also, social distancing standards will be upheld, protecting the candidate's health's safety, because candidates won't need to physically show up at the testing location to take the exam and will instead be proctored and invigilated by the proctoring authority through their live video and audio stream. Thus, if candidates have all the necessary requirements for MAT IBT, like a good internet connection and a supported device, the MAT IBT exam is an ideal choice.
How is MAT IBT different from MAT CBT?
Since the MAT CBT and MAT IBT exam modes are similar to each other in a lot of ways, candidates are known to be confused about the difference between the two. The MAT CBT exam is a computer-based test in which the applicant must take the MAT exam on a computer. The computers assigned to the applicants in the test center would be used to complete the exam. On the other hand, MAT IBT (Internet-Based Test) is taken at the luxury of a candidate’s home, where they can access the MAT exam by taking the necessary steps.
