FAQs
What is the CMAT marking scheme?
The CMAT exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is also in charge of deciding the CMAT marking scheme and exam format. Previously, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) conducted the exam. The marking scheme followed during the CMAT exam is as follows:
- A total of 100 questions divided into 5 sections are present on the CMAT exam. There are 20 questions in each section. Each question is worth 4 marks.
- For each incorrect answer, one mark is deducted.
- There is no negative marking for a question or questions that are not attempted by the candidate.
Is revaluation of CMAT scores possible?
No, the CMAT exam conducting authorities do not permit the re-evaluation or re-checking of the exam's question papers. After the exam results are released, CMAT candidates will not be permitted to request the rechecking or reevaluation of their CMAT answer sheets. The candidates' scores listed on the scorecard are definitive. A candidate must retake the CMAT exam during the subsequent academic session if they wish to raise their scores.
Can I crack CMAT with one month of preparation?
Aspirants who are short on time must know that the CMAT exam can be passed with just one month of preparation. But if you want to get ready for the CMAT in a month, you'll need to finish the course material quickly and put your knowledge into practice. The importance of practicing for mock exams and timed reviews must also be emphasized. Also, if you took the CAT, SNAP, XAT, or IIFT exams, all you need to do for CMAT preparation is to practice CMAT practice tests and study GK topics.
What is the difficulty level of CMAT?
The CMAT exam is usually of moderate difficulty. The quantitative aptitude section of the exam is typically more challenging than the other sections, as evidenced by the past few years. Because the questions are easier and there is no sectional time limit, candidates can pass the CMAT after about three months of preparation. These features of the CMAT exam make it comparatively easier than other entrance exams like CAT, XAT, SNAP, etc.
How many times can I take the CMAT exam?
Because the CMAT exam is only conducted once a year, aspirants have the opportunity to take it only once in a given academic year. Candidates may, however, retake the test as many times as they would like during the subsequent academic terms. Candidates should also keep in mind the most recent CMAT test results will be taken into consideration at the time of admission.
Which section of the CMAT question paper has the highest weightage?
No particular CMAT section has a higher weight than another in the exam. Each multiple-choice question (MCQ) on the CMAT exam is worth four marks, and the total number of questions, which is 200, is equally distributed across all the sections. Each unsuccessful attempt results in the loss of one point in the CMAT exam, which is present in all sections. The CMAT exam has a maximum mark of 400 overall, with each section worth a total of 100 marks.
How can I increase my speed for the CMAT exam?
The CMAT exam is a speed-based exam with a total time limit of three hours. Only those candidates who are able to achieve the maximum number of correct answers in the given time frame will receive the highest percentile score. Thus, it is crucial for aspirants to work on their speed and accuracy. Practicing online mock tests with sectional time limits is the best way to increase the response time on CMAT exam questions. Candidates can also solve the questions more quickly and learn shortcuts by taking mock exams regularly.
How many hours should I study for CMAT preparation?
The amount of time aspirants should spend on their CMAT preparation is entirely dependent on the individual needs and requirements of the candidate. Some candidates are able to complete their preparation within a few weeks whereas others require months of preparation to gain confidence. However, for CMAT preparation, four to six hours of study per day is advised. It is up to the candidate to choose their study hours based on their familiarity with the CMAT syllabus. A candidate may only need to study for 1-2 hours per day if they recently took the CAT, NMAT, SNAP, XAT, IIFT, and other competitive exams.
Is the syllabus for CMAT and CAT the same?
Yes, both CAT and CMAT have certain similarities, majorly in the syllabus covered by both exams. The Quantitative, Language Comprehension, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning sections of the CAT and CMAT exams are known to cover similar topics and concepts. The only distinction between their syllabi is that the CAT exam does not include a section on general awareness.
Which is easier CMAT or CAT?
The CMAT exam is less difficult than the CAT exam in terms of difficulty. Both CMAT and CAT deduct points for incorrect responses. However, CMAT has a negative marking of 25%, whereas CAT has a negative marking of 33% for incorrect answers. No CMAT candidate is disqualified and all candidates are eligible for the counselling process shortlisting. The IIMs, however, shortlist candidates based on the minimum qualifying sectional score, and candidates who do not meet the cutoff requirements are not allowed to appear for further rounds of admission.
