The Bar Council of India (BCI) conducts the national level examination, AIBE (All India Bar Examination). Candidates who want to obtain the “Certificate of Practice” to practice law must pass the AIBE. Candidates upon clearing the AIBE (All India Bar Examination), will be awarded the “Certificate of Practice”.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) conducts the AIBE bi-annually every year. Candidates who are law graduates can only appear for the AIBE. The BCI will conduct AIBE in 40 cities in India in 11 different languages, English, Bengali, Gujrati, Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Oriya, Kannada, Punjabi, Tamil and Telegu. It is not mandatory for law graduates to sit for AIBE (All India Bar Examination) but in order to practice law in India, they have to pass AIBE. Law graduates can practice law in their own state without appearing for AIBE. A law graduate can sit for AIBE any number of times, and post qualifying AIBE, they will be awarded a “Certificate of Practice” by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

AIBE is a moderate level examination but gradually it is becoming difficult to crack. The candidates who are not able to clear the exam should buckle up their preparation level. Candidates should have a clear idea of the updated syllabus, the reference material must be up to dated and should solve enough sample papers. The AIBE is conducted to test the legal knowledge, aptitude, conceptual clarity and decision making skills of the candidates. AIBE was an open book examination till 2020, but starting from 2021, BCI changed the pattern and AIBE (All India Bar Examination) is no longer an open-book exam, but bar acts without comments are allowed inside the examination hall. It is, therefore, very important for the candidates to change their preparation strategy. In this article, take a look at some tips that will help you in your AIBE 17 preparation.

Top 10 Preparation Tips for AIBE 17

As there is still time for AIBE 17, students should start preparing for the exam from now onwards. Here some preparation tips are mentioned for the candidates to follow in order to clear the exam in one go.

  1. Strategize your Preparation

While you sit down to study, firstly chalk out a study plan to prepare for the exam. It is important to know the details of the examination and the exam pattern. Start your preparation by checking the AIBE 17 syllabus. You will get an idea of the topics and the weightage of each topic, accordingly, you can concentrate on particular topics or sections that will help you to score more marks.

  1. Time Management

‘Time Management’ is the most important part of your preparation. After you get an idea of the syllabus and the exam pattern, prepare a timetable that you will follow regularly. You must invest more time in those topics that you find difficult. Your timetable must have a good amount of time to revise and practice the AIBE sample papers. Give yourself small breaks from the study to refresh your mind.

  1. Consistency

You must keep in mind that consistency is the key to achieving success. The candidates go through pressure when the exam is around the corner, but they must be consistent and dedicated with their studies to clear the exam easily.

  1. Notes

Candidates must prepare short notes while preparing for the AIBE 17. During revision, they can just read the notes to revise. Preparing short notes is a good way to memorise the important parts of the topics.

  1. Study Material

The candidates must pick up credible study material to prepare for the AIBE 17. First, give a thorough read of the AIBE syllabus and start looking for appropriate books and notes. Good notes, books and sample papers will increase your chances of clearing the examination.

  1. Sample Papers

Analyse previous year’s papers of AIBE here and try to give as many mock tests as possible. It is heard that BCI is going to be stricter with the testing parameters this year, so the sample papers will be really helpful for preparation.

  1. Important Topics

Students while preparing for the exam must have a clear idea of which AIBE topics hold maximum weightage. The important topics of AIBE 17 include the Criminal Procedure Code, Constitutional Law, Indian Penal Code, Family Law and Law of Contract, Property Laws, Specific Relief and Negotiable Instrument Act.

  1. Tracking Law Cases and Judgements

As analysed from the previous year’s papers, a few questions were asked about controversial and landmark cases of the last year. So, the candidates must be well aware of the details of such cases.

  1. Reading Newspapers

If the candidates check the entire exam pattern of AIBE, they will see that certain questions might be there from case laws. Newspapers carry small details of such groundbreaking cases, therefore, the candidates should read those pieces, articles, news, or opinion of legal importance.

  1. Stay Healthy and Eat Right

Lastly, all your preparation will only be fruitful if you are in good health. It is very important to check your mental and physical stress otherwise, your performance won’t be up to the mark. Avoid eating junk food, eat vegetables, fruits, and nuts and take proper 8 hours of sleep every day. Candidates can also try out yoga and meditation to keep themselves calm.
