The Bar Council of India (BCI) conducts the national level examination, AIBE (All India Bar Examination). Candidates who want to obtain the “Certificate of Practice” to practice law must pass the AIBE. The Bar Council of India (BCI) conducts the AIBE bi-annually every year. Candidates who are law graduates can only appear for the AIBE. The BCI will conduct AIBE in 40 cities in India in 11 different languages, English, Bengali, Gujrati, Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Oriya, Kannada, Punjabi, Tamil and Telegu. It is not mandatory for law graduates to sit for AIBE (All India Bar Examination) but in order to practice law in India, they have to pass AIBE. Law graduates can practice law in their own state without appearing for AIBE. A law graduate can sit for AIBE any number of times, and post qualifying AIBE, they will be awarded a “Certificate of Practice” by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
