The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most popular law entrance exam in India with over 70,000 test-takers every year. CLAT is accepted by the 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) and several other law colleges in India for admission to UG and PG level law programmes

After the release of the CLAT 2024 result, the CLAT participating colleges will release their cutoff scores for admission to various courses. This year also the NLUs will conduct five rounds of seat allotment instead of three and the CLAT cutoff for each round and each college is different. Apart from this, separate cutoff lists will also be generated by every institute for each category.

In this article, we have provided a comparison between the cutoff scores of CLAT 2020 and CLAT 2019 which will help candidates to analyse the CLAT cutoff and get an idea of the CLAT 2024 cutoff scores. This article will immensely help the candidates who are seeking admission through CLAT 2024. Read further to know the details of CLAT 2020 vs CLAT 2019 cutoff.

Differences Between CLAT 2020 and CLAT 2019

The conducting body of CLAT, the Consortium of NLUs, had revised the exam pattern of CLAT in November 2019. Hence, the exam pattern of CLAT 2019 was different from that of CLAT 2020 onwards. The modification in the CLAT exam pattern directly affected the cutoff scores as well. Therefore, considering the trends of the CLAT 2019 cutoff will not be helpful when estimating CLAT 2024 cutoff scores.

The major changes in CLAT exam pattern from 2020 onwards have been listed below.

  • The total number of questions was reduced from 200 to 150.
  • Instead of statement-based questions, the exam comprised questions based on passages.
  • The Elementary Mathematics section was renamed to Quantitative Techniques and sets were introduced in it.
  • In the Legal Aptitude section, questions were asked in which candidates had to use their legal acumen while going through the information given instead of applying legal knowledge.
  • Earlier, just one comprehension was asked in the section of English language. However, this was changed and all the questions in this section are now passage-based, similar to the other sections of CLAT.
  • Fewer questions were asked on topics that needed to be memorised.
  • The duration of the exam remained unchanged and candidates are given 2 hours to complete the paper.

The table given below will explain the division of the number of questions in CLAT 2019 and CLAT 2020.
