The total number of NLU seats in India and the CLAT 2025 reservation policy at different National Law Universities (NLUs) will determine the student's chance of admission to the law school. The CLAT 2025 seat matrix for admission to the UG and PG courses in total is 5051. 24 NLUs are participating in the exam and offer 3628 CLAT seats in undergraduate law courses and around 1423 seats in LLM courses. The CLAT 2025 seat matrix is distributed across different categories according to the reservation policy rules of the individual NLUs. Many NLUs offer domicile reservations from the total CLAT seats, meaning the number of seats will decrease for all India aspirants. The total NLU seats in India are distributed between UR, SC, ST, OBC and EWS category candidates.

- Candidates will be allotted seats in different NLUs in five rounds of the counselling process.
- After a candidate has been allotted a seat in an NLU, he/ she needs to submit the counselling fee of INR 30,000 to lock their seat at the NLU.
- Aspirants who will not deposit the counselling fee will lose their seat from the respective NLU and the university will withdraw their name from the merit list of CLAT 2025.
- Candidates should know beforehand that the counselling fee is non-refundable. Hence, candidates who want to withdraw their names from the NLU allotted list will not get a refund of the counselling fee.
- On the other hand, the test-takers whose names are on the waiting list but did not get a seat due to the unavailability of vacant seats will get their deposited counselling fee refunded.
- After completing the final allocation of seats, candidates need to report to the respective NLU and complete the admission formalities by paying the rest of the fees and submitting the required documents to complete the admission process.
