The final countdown begins with only a few days left for JEE Mains 2020. Those who are writing JEE Mains in pen and paper format, have hardly any time to do any significant improvement in their JEE Main preparation strategy at this time. For the students who have selected the online mode, there is still some time to make last-minute changes/ addition in their preparation.

Keeping in line with the expectation of parents and dear ones, you have been honest towards your studies and devoted enough time and efforts to understand the subjects of the exams. Now the time of saying “more you sweat in peace less you bleed in war” is over - you did what you could. You have made the best possible use of your resources and yet you may feel that your readiness is not complete. So it’s time to exploit your preparation the best.

The examination system is not to test how much you have studied and how much you know but it tests what you can answer and how you can answer a question which needs a certain amount of application. This is where JEE Main last-minute preparation tips play a crucial role. The competitive examination system frames the situation in such a way that a student is compelled to commit mistakes and at times fail to answer even the questions on known things.

Do's and Don’ts for Aspirants

  • Sleep well; devote six hours of sleep daily. It is better to avoid late-night studies. Additionally, keep a watch on your diet and also have your food on time. Enough liquid diet will help you to overcome your anxiety.
  • Communicate with your well-wishers - your parents, siblings and friends. Discuss your problem: it will reinvigorate and energize you.
  • Walk-in open at least for half an hour every day, it will enable you to breathe fresh air and relax your brain which will further provide enthusiasm.
  • It is a good idea to engage yourself in light, freehand exercises and to relax for some time.
  • Try to recollect your past achievements in various competitions, if any. This will not only give you a lot of confidence but also boost your self-esteem.

On the Day of the Exam

  1. Make your exam kit ready well in advance including JEE Main 2018 admit card, Aadhaar card and other important documents etc. As nothing else is allowed to be taken inside your examination hall, one can take pen, pencil and an eraser etc. in his bag which will be needed to be kept outside the hall.
  2. Also, check the list of items which you are not allowed to carry to the examination hall beforehand so that it does not get confiscated at the exam centre.
  3. Check your exam centre address, location, landmark and route well before time. Also, if possible, ask anyone in your family to pay a visit one day in advance to gain familiarity with the exam centre route/location or at least check it on Google Maps.

In the Examination Hall

  • Don't panic as that will only make you more nervous and force you to under-perform.
  • Once you receive the question paper and answer sheet, you are advised to fill all the relevant and mandatory information with a cool head.
  • Duration of the question paper is three hours for three subjects and a total of 90 questions will be there; so ideally allot one hour to each subject.
  • It is ideal to put the first one hour to the subject which is your strength. You shall not stick to any question for more than a minute. Distribute the next two hours accordingly.
  • If you are equally strong in all the subjects, it is a good idea to attempt chemistry in the first hour as it has less numerical as compared to physics and mathematics.
  • Also, cover all the conceptual questions first. Next, fill the answers in the OMR sheet carefully. OMR sheet is to be filled with ink or ballpoint pen. Hence, no change can be made in the OMR sheet once it is filled.
  • You can use estimation method where long calculations are involved.
  • While marking the answers in the sheet, thoroughly check you that you have marked the correct answer at the correct number.
  • Negative marking is involved, hence, say no to guesswork. You can make intelligent guesses like using the elimination method, 50-50 methods, etc.
  • Calculus in Maths, Kinematics in Physics and Organic Chemistry are the key areas. Revise them well and read the problem with concentration before answering.

Do’s and don’ts for Parents

  • Never compare your child with anybody and don’t force to extend his study hours. Keep him away from all sort of day to day anxiety and problematic discussions.
  • Keep a watch on his food habits and any other discomfort he may have.
  • On a day prior to the exam ensure proper sleep (at least 7-8 hours) for your child. As the arrival time at the exam centre is 7am, let him take solid food; try to escort him as well.
  • Always remember success tastes good only if you make efforts to achieve it.

Best of luck!
