XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is one of the most popular and prestigious exams in our country for B-school admission. The exam is conducted in 47 cities in India by XLRI and about 90,000 appear for the exam every year. There are many A+ rated institutes which accept XAT scores. The most popular among these are XLRI, Jamshedpur and XIM Bhubaneswar. The format of the exam is pen and paper based. Selection process starts with the written test i.e. XAT. Based on XAT cut-offs, candidates are called for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. The criteria for final selection include the XAT score, candidate's academic record, overall profile of the candidate, work experience in months etc.

Clearing the Cut off score of a particular B-school is just the first step in securing the berth in a coveted B-school. The minimum score for which a college calls a candidate (in their respective category) for inviting a candidate for the selection process is called Cut-off score. The next step after clearing the test cut offs is the selection process, mostly GE (Group exercise), PI (Personal Interview) & WAT (Writing Ability Test) process conducted by each of these institutes. This process may varies from institute to institute. Some institutes have case study based GDs in which the candidate has to write the points after the discussion and submit the answer for evaluation.
