Established in 1926, Andhra University (AU) is a 98-year-old higher education institution that is considered as one of the country's oldest educational institutions. The university is the first to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating university. Mainly devoted to postgraduate teaching and research, Andhra University came into being after a prolonged and collective struggle of the Telugu elite for a university in the educationally backward northern Circars and Ceded districts of the erstwhile Madras Presidency.
Sir C.R. Reddy was Andhra University’s founder and Vice-Chancellor. Former President of India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan succeeded Dr C. R. Reddy as Vice-Chancellor in 1931. The AU SDE (Andhra University School of Distance Education) has 23 permanent faculties offering four UG programmes, 18 PG programmes, five certification courses, nine PG diploma courses, 15 professional courses, and seven collaborative courses through Distance Education Mode. The AU distance learning package comprises self-learning study materials, audio-video classes, and face-to-face interaction. Students at AU SDE study the same syllabi and are subject to the same regulations as the regular students of Andhra University. The Degree awarded is also the same as the regular degree.
Gyan Vani, a community Radio Station, is located at the School of Distance Education and caters to the needs of learners of the School of Distance Education. The School of Distance Education has 35 study centres as well.

The Andhra University campus sprawls over 422 acres of land that houses 121 buildings related to academic, administrative, and support services fields. These come with a plinth area of about 20 lakh sq. ft. Presently, the University is catering to the educational needs of five green districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam.

The Andhra University campus has 23 hostels for men, accommodating more than 3200 students and 10 hostels exclusively for women with a capacity of more than 2000 students. There are two separate hostels for international students. The university has two Residential Health Centres - one on the south campus and the other on the north campus. It also has a homoeo dispensary for the students and staff members. Andhra University has four guest houses and 324 staff quarters.
Library -
Dr V.S. Krishna Library is the Andhra University central library. It also has two branch libraries - Engineering College Library and Law College Library. Dr V.S. Krishna Library has a 60,000 sq. ft. of carpet area. It has a seating and reading facility to enable the user to choose and refer books comfortably. It has a seating capacity of 500 users and houses 5,20,502 books. The library is effectively using SOUL software. It also provides special facilities for differently-abled persons. Furthermore, AU has developed a separate unit of books in Braille for visually challenged students.
Health Services -
AU Health Centre, formerly known as AU Dispensary, was established in 1933 for medical and health hazards of AU students and staff. It was modified as AU Health Centre in 1981 with a senior medical officer and three medical officers. The students, scholars, teaching and non-teaching members, and their family members staying at the AU campus utilise the hospital services as and when in need. There is a separate homoeopathy clinic attached to the health centre.

A rank of 101-200 in the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test (AP ICET) would be sufficient for General category students to secure admission to the MBA program offered by Andhra University. The previous year AP ICET MBA cutoff for Andhra University was 185 for Retail Management, 196 for Banking and Financial Services (Self-Finance), and 307 for the general MBA program. Therefore, if you are able to secure an AP ICET rank of 200 or higher, you will have a good chance of being allotted an MBA seat at Andhra University in the General category through AP ICET counselling. The annual fee for BA LLB course at Andhra University is Rs 1,00,000. The course duration is five years and admissions are offered based on AP LAWCET conducted by.
