The history of library movement in Gondal in particular stretches back as far as 1885 A.D. This is the year when a public library was first established in the state capital by the erstwhile ruler Maharajashri Bhagavatsinhji. He was a king with a very futuristic vision. As he was a very educated person he was prompt to understand the value and role of good libraries, may it be public or academic library. During his reign he had not only taken keen interest in establishment of libraries in his state but also had simultaneously taken required step to strengthen the library movement in his state.The college library was started with the college. And as the college developed with it the library too developed. Mr. P. M. Udesi was the first librarian of this college library. With the changing time the library activities and role too has changed in accordance. The work of library at the time of its establishment was more or less limited to issuing books to the students and the staff for their academic activity. The concept of library has undergone a sea change now. It is now viewed as an information center. The library is molding itself into its new role of an information center with the help of modern information storage and retrieval technology and tools. We are in the process of total computerization of the library and soon we will have OPAC (Open Access to Catalogue) fully functional in the library. We have a computer with a broadband connection through which students can avail internet facility through the librarian. We have a laser printer in the library for students to get print outs of the information downloaded from the internet.
