Siddharth Mahavidyalaya Expert's Review and Verdict

Campus at a Glance

Siddharthnagar, nestled in a historical region and serenaded by the flowing rivers cascading from the beautiful Himalayas, retains a distinctive position on the global map as the 'playground' of Prince Siddhartha, subsequently recognised as Lord Buddha. In 1989, Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, a famous socialist politician, outlined a vision for blending traditional values with contemporary education, with the goal of fostering enlightenment in the region. This marked the beginning of the journey toward the realization of the ambitious dream of establishing Siddharth University. On October 30, 2013, Shri Akhilesh Yadav, the acclaimed Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, laid the foundation stone for the institution at Kapilvastu, Siddharth Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. On June 17, 2015, the Government of Uttar Pradesh formally recognised and declared the formation of this prestigious Centre for Higher Learning.

Siddharth University is regarded as a highly respected university that is known for its academic excellence and its ability to quickly adapt to new practices and technologies. The university serves nearly 200,000 students across 279 affiliated colleges and on its main campus. The university provides consistent counselling support, emphasizing student empowerment, encouraging self-discovery, and preparing them for the demands of the real world. Inclusivity is a core value, and the university ensures accessibility to all segments of society. Through cost-effective initiatives and scholarships, it actively assists those facing social and economic challenges.

However, the reality is not always as optimistic as it may appear. Students have frequently criticised the university for its lack of infrastructure and resources. Students have expressed dissatisfaction with classrooms, laboratories, and libraries. It has also been criticised for the considerable amount of time it has taken to release results and hold graduation ceremonies. In some cases, students have had to wait for years to receive their degrees. Here’s our take with a candid and transparent review, giving you insights into the curriculum, academic environment, faculty, facilities, rankings, and other aspects of Siddharth University to set clear expectations.

Our Take:

There can be a variety of reasons why Siddharth University is not yet listed in the NIRF University Rankings or recognised by other rankings. One possibility is that the university is still in its early stages. It was founded in 2015, and it takes time for colleges to create a reputation and obtain high rankings. We also believe that the institution did not meet all of the criteria for inclusion in the NIRF rankings, such as teaching and research quality, the number of publications in high-impact journals, and graduate employability. Siddharth University may not yet perform as well as other universities on these parameters. It is also possible that the university has not been recognised by other ranking organisations yet because it's still small and unknown outside and within India.

Our Take:

Siddharth University's nearly 200,000 students attest to the university's size and significance. It signifies that the institution is a prominent educational provider in the Kapilvastu, Siddharth Nagar region of Uttar Pradesh.

In terms of faculty, a few of the professors do not teach well at the university and are found just reading from their notes or PowerPoint presentations. Students have also highlighted that some of the faculty members do not even remain available to meet with students during office hours.

In terms of academia, Siddharth University provides a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programmes. The university's primary goal is to provide students with a well-rounded education that includes academic knowledge, practical applications, research projects, and skill development. This helps students prepare for their chosen industries and increases their employability. However, as per the reviews gathered from various social media platforms, we have observed that the curriculum for some courses is outdated and does not reflect the latest developments in the field. Furthermore, the university claims to promote practical learning but in reality, it does not provide enough of it to its students, which makes it difficult for them to find jobs after graduation.

Siddharth University Infrastructure

Siddharth University, located in Siddharthnagar, is well-known for its commitment to ongoing improvement of its infrastructure, which includes buildings, classrooms, library, sports facilities, hostels, and other amenities.

  • Library: Siddharth University Kapilvastu's library is a well-equipped and well-maintained institution. It has nearly 500,000 books and journals on a variety of topics, including the arts, sciences, commerce, and management. In addition, the library offers a wide collection of e-books and e-journals that students may access online.

  • Sports Facilities: All students at Siddhartha University have access to a sports facility. This implies that all students, regardless of age, gender, or ability level, have access to sports and physical activities at the university. The university's sports department is ready to assist students in finding the correct sports and activities for them, as well as providing the assistance they require to succeed.

  • IT Infrastructure: Siddhartha University provides superior IT infrastructure to its students. The institution offers a high-speed internet network that is available throughout the campus. Students can connect to the internet from anywhere on campus.

  • Guest House: The Siddharth University Guest House is a well-kept and well-equipped facility that provides pleasant accommodations for university guests. There are single rooms, double rooms, and family rooms available at the guest home. All of the rooms are air-conditioned and have private bathrooms. Other amenities at the guest home include a dining hall, a lounge, and a garden.

Our Take:

As per our research, we got to know that there is limited information available regarding the infrastructure of Siddharth University. The official website does not actively showcase or market the university's infrastructure. Overall, we believe that the university's infrastructure is designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone in society. A powerful symbol of this commitment is the Indian flag flying proudly on a 100-ft pole at the university campus, marking the international border. It signifies the institution's dedication to being a source of national pride, not only within the country but also extending beyond its borders. The guest house is well-kept and well-equipped, and the staff is kind and helpful. However, the guest house is a little run-down, and the food is mediocre.

Siddharth University Administration

The administration at Siddhartha University is taken care by the following:

  • Chancellor
  • Vice Chancellor
  • Registrar
  • Finance Officer
  • Controller of Examination
  • Deputy Registrar
  • Dean of Students Welfare
  • Chief Proctor
  • Estate Officer
  • Information & Public Relations Offices
  • Deans of the Faculties
  • Members of the Executive Council

Apart from the aforementioned roles, other administrative and academic staff are also in charge of Siddhartha University's administration and governance. The Chancellor is the university's leader and is in charge of its general administration and governance. The Vice-Chancellor is the university's second-in-command and is in charge of its day-to-day operations. The Registrar is in charge of academic records and admissions at the university. A variety of statutory entities manage the administration and governance of the institution. These groups are in charge of different areas of the administration and governance of the university, such as academic policy, budgetary planning, and student affairs.

Our Take:

According to our research, students' attitudes towards administration and governance at Siddhartha University are typically favourable. Students value the university's efficient management and dedication to providing students with an excellent education based on Lord Buddha's teachings.

However, students have expressed concerns about the university's bureaucracy and its delayed responsiveness to student problems. The university has also been chastised for the time it took to release results and hold graduation ceremonies. Students have had to wait years to get their hands on their degrees. Furthermore, the university has been accused of political interference. Politicians are said to frequently assign allies to crucial posts at universities.

Siddhartha University: Expectation vs Reality!

Here are some takeaways based on our analysis and research:

  • The university campus is in a small town and lacks many of the facilities that students may be accustomed to in larger cities. There may be fewer possibilities for shopping, dining, and entertainment, for example. The university, on the other hand, is situated in a scenic location with several natural attractions such as woods, rivers, and waterfalls.

  • It provides students with several options to participate in extracurricular activities and strengthen their social skills.

Final Verdict:Siddhartha University is an excellent choice for students seeking an affordable education in a culturally diverse environment. However, as previously noted, students should be aware of the university's drawbacks.
