The College Library was set up in the year 1998. The Library had an initial collection of 400 books and they catered to the B.com Course. As the number of course grew the library collection too has kept pace. Presently in the year 2015, the library books /magazines have increased exponentially. The library caters to all the undergraduate & post graduate courses conducted by the college. The College Library has correspondingly tried to build up a collection suited to each of these courses. Over the years, it has emerged as the sole repository of the syllabus books. Our collection includes reference books and the mandatory text books. It also includes books & even encyclopaedias on environment, management, television, journalism, video production, politics & history. An eclectic collection of fiction, non fiction books has also been built up.The College building has 22 classrooms of varying capacity, starting from the basement to the fourth floor. All class rooms provide adequate space for teaching and learning. The College has separate Environmental Science Laboratory, well equipped with all instruments and apparatus required for conducting environmental science practicals as per the syllabus of University of Mumbai. The experiments performed in our laboratory are related to quality analysis of air, water, noise and soil. We also conduct microbiological experiments which help the students to know the micro-organisms present in soil samples and also study the effect of heavy metal on the growth of micro-organisms. The college has 7 computer laboratories to meet the ICT requirement of the various courses. The Media Lab and Electronics Lab also serve certain specialized needs of some courses. All laboratories and departments are interconnected by a central hub, thus connecting the seven computer laboratories, Staff Common Rooms, Library, Office and all departments. The Audio Visual room is used by different departments, for holding seminars, workshops, film screenings, association activities and meetings.
After the success of its very first event conducted on the occasion of ‘World Ozone Day’, the Conservation Club 2015-16 was back with its second event- ‘Donation Drive’. The already high spirits of the club on account of the success of its first event multiplied rapidly after this event, as it turned out to be huge success too.
The idea behind this donation drive was to donate used clothes to the underprivileged kids in an NGO. Accordingly, the club decided a target for the number of clothes to be collected and decided its PR strategy. The volunteers resorted to WhatsApp for circulating messages that made the people in college aware of such an initiative. Class to class PR was also done to enhance participation. The willing donors had to hand over the clothes to any volunteer of the club, who further put them in the collection box. The drive went on for about a week and half.
Finally, the day arrived when the clothes were to be donated to the NGO.On 24th September 2015, the entire club went to the selected NGO to donate clothes. The NGO chosen was “Kanchan Foundation” situated in Vashi. The volunteers’ happiness knew no bounds when they got to know that the collection done was double the target set. The total number of clothes collected were 370. This boosted the morale of each one of them, which was evident from the beaming faces with which they went to the NGO.
The experience at the NGO was even more enthralling. The interaction with the children in the NGO was the most enjoyable time. The experience was unparalleled, which is what felt as a fruit of all the efforts put into making the event stand. Seeing the joyful faces of the children, the smiles on the volunteers’ faces got converted to grins, and everyone returned home with the same.
