TISS Mumbai Scholarships

Students accepted or seeking admission to TISS Mumbai can apply for a variety of scholarships provided by the state, funding agencies, and national-level scholarships. To be eligible for TISS Mumbai scholarships, students must meet the eligibility requirements and submit an application form along with the required documentation. Eligible students can apply for national and state-level scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal and the Maharashtra Scholarship Portal, respectively.

The M.Phil and PhD students at Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai are eligible to apply for fellowships from the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, and other scholarship/fellowship providers. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowship (BANRF/BARTI), Sir Dorabji Tata Trust Scholarship, The Indian Council of Social Science Research Doctoral Fellowship, Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF), and other fellowships are available to M.Phil and PhD students.

  • National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students (offered by Central Government, Ministry of Tribal Affairs).

TISS Mumbai Scholarships, Amount and Eligibility Criteria

Students admitted to postgraduate programmes must have a minimum of 60% in the arts, commerce, and law streams and 70% in the science streams.

Parents' annual income should not exceed 75,000 Rs/-, and students must be Maharashtra residents. Students are also not permitted to work part-time or full-time.

PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl ChildRs 36,200 per annumGirl students up to the age of 30 must be enrolled in a full-time first-year PG programme.
Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for MinoritiesRs 3,000 per annumStudents must have received 50% or higher in their previous final examination and have an annual family income of up to Rs 2,00,000 per year.
National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students 

Rs 25,000 per month for M.Phil candidates 


 

Rs 28,000 per month for PhD candidates

Students must be from the ST category, have completed post-graduate studies, and be enrolled in a regular full-time M.Phil/Ph.D. programme, with an annual family income of up to Rs 6,00,000 per year.
UGC Junior Research FellowshipRs 16,000 per month for the first two years, followed by Rs 18,000 per month for the next three years. There is also a contingency grant of Rs 10,000/- per year for the first two years and Rs 20,500/- per year for the next three years.Students must have passed the UGC's National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET).
Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship

The first two years will cover up to Rs 16,000/-, and the remaining three years will cover up to Rs 18,000/-. The available contingency grant is Rs 10,000/- per year for the first two years and Rs 20,500/- for the remaining three years.

In addition, students who are not offered hostel accommodation will be given a house rent allowance.

Students must be from the SC/ST category and accepted into M.Phil/PhD programmes.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) The first two years are Rs 16,000/- per month, and the remaining three years are Rs 18,000/- per month.Students pursuing research studies leading to regular and full-time M.Phil and PhD degrees must only be members of the minority community.
The Indian Council of Social Science Research Doctoral Fellowship Rs 16,000/- per month plus a yearly contingency grant of Rs 15,000/-Doctoral students, preferably under the age of 35, who have a master's degree from a recognised university with a first or second class and are enrolled in a doctoral programme in the social sciences.
VU Scholarship (TISS-VU Double Degree Programme)Stipend of Rs 16,000 per month for the first two years, increasing to Rs 18,000 in the third year.PhD candidates must enrol in a joint doctoral double degree programme in Health and Mental Health that employs a transdisciplinary approach. (Double degree programme at TISS and VU)
Sir Dorabji Tata Trust ScholarshipNAStudents accepted for M.Phil programmes in Women's Studies, Media and Cultural Studies. Only students who have not received any other grants or scholarships are eligible to apply.
Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowship (BANRF/BARTI) M.Phil scholars would receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 5,000/-, while PhD scholars would receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 8000/-.Students must be full-time research students who are not employed at the institute or elsewhere.

Dear Ketaki, TISS Mumbai does not offer MBA in Finance. The MBA programmes offered at TISS Mumbai are Business Policy and Entrepreneurship, Development Management, Health Systems Management, HRM, Information Systems Management, Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development Management. The admission process for the MBA courses at TISS Mumbai is based on the TISSNET exam which is a 2-hour exam that consists of 100 multiple choice questions. The TISSNET exam is conducted in April every year and the shortlisted candidates for the MBA courses at TISS Mumbai will be called for a personal interview.
