Besides introducing Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme, IUST is playing a pioneering and leading role amongst all the Institutions in the State of J&K in facilitating and administering the system developed by the Central & State Governments in terms of granting scholarships. The number of scholarships sanctioned for the IUST students is the highest amongst all the Educational Institutions of the J&K State. During the academic session 2012-13, IUST issued 641 scholarships against 719 applicants which amounts to Rs. 1,79,66,485/- (One crore seventy nine lac sixty six thousand four hundred and eighty five rupees only) while as in the session 2011 -12 the number of sanctioned scholarships were just 323 for an amount of Rs 71,23,060 (Seventy one lacs twenty three thousand and sixty only).
There are number of Schemes such as Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme, Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, Pahari Speaking (PS) Scheme, Other Backward Classes (OBC) Scheme, Physically Challenged Students (PCS) Scheme, Scheduled Castes (SC) Scheme and Resident of Backward Area (RBA) Scheme. IUST remains in constant touch with various Government departments such as Ministry of HRD GoI, Department of Social Welfare, Directorate of Tribal Affairs, State Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari speaking people and J&K State Board of School Education to have the maximum number of scholarships granted to its students.
The procedure is being meticulously followed by informing the students at right time about any such opportunity and accordingly they are being briefed about the formalities to be fulfilled. Further, the Application Forms are properly scrutinized and incase of any discrepancies the students are again informed to clear the lacunae and thereafter the applications complete in all respects are forwarded to the concerned Government department in a very systematic manner both online and offline (hard copy) form.
It is worth to mention here that the Ministry of Minority Affairs GoI has introduced Online Scholarship Management System (OSMS) under the Merit cum Means and Post Matric scholarship schemes which is available on the website of www.momascholarship.gov.in In the consecutive year since 2011 the number of applicants from IUST has increased tremendously upto 1065, in the year 2013. Due to the fact that the IUST organises special awareness lecture sessions to encourage the deserving / meritorious students to apply for the scholarships.
