BRCM Entrepreneurship Development Cell: Entrepreneurs play a vital role in the economic development of any region or country. An entrepreneur is a person who organizes, manages and takes the risk of running an enterprise. All industrially developed countries such as USA, Japan, Germany etc. show that their development is an effect of entrepreneurship. India has very ambitious growth targets for the future. We got opened up two decades back and enjoy a favorable demographic dividend from its young population. It has emerged as a strong economic force with the second largest growth rate after China. All these happened due to entrepreneurs of this country. It is strongly felt that we want millions of entrepreneurs for the country and all of us in BRCM College of Engineering & Technology  believe that we should do whatever possible to develop entrepreneurship.

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of BRCM College of Engineering & Technology Bahal , commonly known as EDC, has been established with the objective of  creating, fostering and promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship among the youth of the nation.  Created in the early months of 2013, the cell has already taken rapid strides in cultivating entrepreneurial temper and has succeeded in carving a niche for itself. In pursuance of its goals, the cell has set up both short and long-term objectives. The short term objectives aim at bolstering an environment conducive for entrepreneurial thinking and action through the organization of a variety of entrepreneurship oriented events such as business plan contests, case studies, business quizzes, social entrepreneurship issues solutions and so forth. The long term objectives aim at setting up an incubator at BRCM College of Engineering & Technology for aiding students who have a marketable idea or project and aspire to start their own ventures.

National Service Scheme(NSS), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhi ji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country.

The Objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are

  • Understand the community in which they work.

  • Understand themselves in relation to their community.

  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.

  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility. v. Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.

  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.

  • Gain skills in mobilising community participation.

  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.

  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.

  • National integration and social harmony.

The Main objective of NSS is “Personality and Skill development of the students through Community service”.

Motto

The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration to '/other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrines in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

Need of NSS

After independence, the University Grants Commission, headed by S. Radhakrishnan, recommended the introduction of voluntary national service in academic institutions. This idea was again considered by the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) at its meeting in January, 1950; after examining the idea and the experiences of other countries in this field, the board recommended that students and teachers should devote time to voluntary work. In the draft first Five-Year Plan adopted by the government in 1952, the need for social and labour service by Indian students for one year was stressed. In 1958 Jawaharlal Nehru, in a letter to the chief ministers, considered the idea of social service as a prerequisite for graduation. He directed the Ministry of Education to formulate a suitable scheme for the introduction of national service into academic institutions. We have one unit and this NSS unit is running in our college since 2003. As a Unit our objectives are personality and Skill development of the students. To fulfill the objective we organise various programs for the students like.

  • One day Camp on different Social themes.

  • Social interaction of the students.

  • Various Guest and Expert Lectures.

  • Seven day Special Camp.

  • Blood donation Camps.

  • First Aid Training.

  • Group discussion on various social issues.

  • Debate

  • Nukkar Natak.

We are also looking forward to create awareness about various social issues like

  • Drugs

  • Corruption

  • Girls Education

  • Communal Harmony

We have organized Seven day Special NSS camps, one day Camps and different activities at Bahal for the overall development of the students. It is to present before you a brief report of NSS activities which are held during last three years.
