Admission to Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology is through NCHM Entrance Exam and also with mediocre academic records.

The course is 1.6 year long with 24 weeks of industrial training in which students are taught about standardization of recipes, importance of kitchen in hotel and catering services, theory of bread making, kitchen stewarding and upkeep of equipment, methods of cooking with special applications to fish, cheese, meat, vegetables and egg, commodities and costing, dairy products stc.
