Siliguri is witnessing the birth of a 250-bed multi-specialty hospital, the likes of which it has not been seen before. There will be a paradigm shift not only in the facilities & specialties available, but also the way healthcare is delivered to the patient – quality with care. The equipments will be state-of-the art and the men behind the machines, the doctors, are being welcomed from all over India, and sometimes outside India, as well as the best & brightest from Siliguri itself. The Academy, which is spread over 40,000 sq. ft. of built-up area, comprises of spacious & well-lit class-rooms, well-equipped laboratories, a comprehensive library and a large, multi-utility hall, apart from a hostel complex for the students. There are eight large class-rooms that have been built, keeping in mind the possibility of enrolling more students in the future, and equipped with teaching aids starting from white boards to facility for Audio-Visual presentations. The library is one that the institution can justifiably be proud of, with its collection of text-books in sufficient numbers, journals in various subjects to keep up with the latest in nursing practices as well as multiple internet connections to enable students & staff to research their queries. Run by a full-time librarian, it will remain open from 10AM to 8PM including holidays to enable students to utilize the facilities during evening study hours. A variety of laboratories provide facilities for training in the practical aspects of nursing education. Starting with the Community Health Lab simulating a rural ambience and the Nutrition Lab adjacent to the kitchen, to the Computer Lab with its array of PCs, they provide hands-on training to the students. The most important ones are the Fundamental Lab and MCH Lab, which have been equipped with unprecedented number of imported models & high-tech mannequins, on which the students begin their training related to patient care. The hostel provides all modern amenities for the resident students, and, with its recreation areas, common room and a large dining area, ensures a secure, homely & congenial environment for safe & comfortable living. It would be compulsory for the students to stay in the Nurses’ Hostel.
