National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur

NIFT Kannur is the pioneering institute in fashion education, set up in 1986. In 2006, NIFT became a statutory institute under an act of the Indian Parliament. There are 17 campuses across the country with all the required infrastructure. The president acts as the "visitor" for all the campuses. NIFT is working in the areas of design development, handloom and handicraft.

NIFT Kannur lies in the land of the Gods, Kerala, away from the hustle of the cities. NIFT started working as a temporary campus in 2008 and became permanent in 2012. The infrastructure is provided by the state government, so there is a 20% reservation for the state students.

• The students having parental income up to Rs 1.5 LPA get 100% financial assistance in tuition fees. 
• The students having parental income from Rs 1.5 LPA to Rs 2.5 LPA get 75% financial assistance in tuition fees. 
• The students having parental income above Rs 2.5 LPA up to Rs 4 LPA get 50% financial assistance in tuition fees. 

For postgraduate students:

• The students having parental income up to Rs 1.5 LPA get 75% financial assistance in tuition fees. 
• The students having parental income above Rs 1.5 LPA up to Rs 2.5 LPA get 50% financial assistance in tuition fees. 
• The students having parental income above Rs 2.5 LPA up to Rs 4 LPA get 25% financial assistance in tuition fees. 

How To Apply For NIFT Scholarships?

Students can fill out the application online or offline. The application forms are available in several departments at the college. The application forms are also available on the official website of NIFT.

The process is as follows: 

• The students need to fill out an application form. Personal details are to be filled out, and then the mandatory and applicable documents are to be attached. 
• The mandatory documents consist of a passport-sized photo, an income declaration, proof of permanent address, a photocopy of the PAN or passport of the applicant and guardian, a school leaving certificate for classes 10 and 12, and a receipt of the paid tuition fees. 
• The applicable documents consist of a 3-year income tax return copy, a vehicle registration copy, documents related to any other scholarships, and SC/ST/OBC/PHP certificates.
• Then the process of scrutiny and approval occurs. All the documents attached by the students are verified. The application gets approved based on these documents. The eligible candidates get the scholarships. 

NIFT Kannur Courses

NIFT is the first institute in the country for gaining fashion education. It has an important role in providing professional human resources to the textile and apparel industries. NIFT is imparting theoretical and practical knowledge to its students to become trained individuals. 

There are five NIFT Kannur UG courses. These include several programmes for fashion design, the apparel industry and communication. The available seats in the courses range from 115 to 130 in these courses. The names of these courses are listed here:

Once this is verified, the students can go to the website and apply. The NIFT application process for this year has already started. The application is for the exams for various courses. NIFT Kannur Application Fees

The NIFT application fee has to be paid via online mode. The available options include net banking, credit card, debit card, and UPI. The fee varies across categories. 

• A non-refundable fee of Rs 3000 is for Gen/OBC/Gen EWS categories.
• A non-refundable fee of Rs 1500 is for SC/ST/PWD categories.

How to Fill in the NIFT Kannur Application Form?

The application for the NIFT Selection Test has to be done online. The application portal is easy to handle and has a good user interface. The process for application is as follows. 

• Open the official website of NIFT. 
• Click on the admission tab.
• The application form will open up. 
• Fill in all the personal information asked for in the application form. 
• Fill in the educational details in the application form.

The NIFT curriculum is all about training individuals to become professionals in the fashion industry. The programme structure at NIFT is designed so that all the students get personal attention. The characteristics and features of the curriculum at NIFT are:

• The subjects in NIFT consist of four types. These include majors, deepening specialisations, minors, and general electives. 
• The minors are interdisciplinary. They help the students acquire several skillsets. Students can opt for the field of their intellectual interest. 
• The general electives have subjects like personality development, communication skills, critical thinking skills etc. It helps the students to develop a good personality and mould it accordingly.
