NMIMS Bengaluru hosted a seminar on December 11, 2023, featuring acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee and the star cast of his latest film, Joram. The event provided an opportunity for the actor to share his experiences and challenges faced during the making of Joram. Manoj Bajpayee, known for his immersive acting style, discussed his preparation process and his successful collaboration with director Devashish Makhija. He also entertained the audience with popular dialogues from his films and discussed Joram's success at international film festivals.
When asked about his approach to choosing films, he stated, "I treat all stories with the same conviction because I believe every good film will eventually receive its due recognition.” Dr. Narayani Ramachandran, Director, NMIMS Bengaluru, expressed her appreciation for Manoj Bajpayee and the Joram team, stating, "It was an honour for all of us to host talented actor Manoj Bajpayee and team Joram for an enriching conversation.” The seminar concluded with a discussion on Joram, a survival thriller that highlights critical social issues and was released in theatres on December 8, 2023
On November 28, 2023, NMIMS Bangalore hosted a Y20 Talk, featuring Ms Surabhi Hodigere, on the topic ‘Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance’. The talk was organised in association with INDGenius and Y20 India.
Ms Surabhi Hodigere expressed her desire to serve the country and spoke about her political experiences after her return from the United States. She also highlighted India’s leadership at the G20 and applauded the success of the G20 Summit 2023 held in New Delhi. The students were apprised of the importance of social entrepreneurship and social change along with the need for reading. Stressing the need for social change, Ms Hodigere asked Indian youths to assume governance responsibility and take public policy initiatives.
Currently, a research scholar at Aapti Institute in Bangalore, Ms Surabhi Hodigere is a civic-technology entrepreneur and a LAMP fellowship recipient. She has a bachelor's degree in Economics (Honors) from the University and a Master's degree in Public Policy from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
The session served as a great opportunity for the students to explore new ideas and outlooks by interacting with professionals and widening their scope of knowledge.
NMIMS Bengaluru hosted a captivating session on 'ISRO’s Space Exploration' on November 10, 2023, featuring esteemed scientist Mrs. Kalpana Arvind, Associate Director at LEOS-ISRO. The session offered a deep dive into ISRO’s significant achievements and future plans in space exploration.
Mrs. Arvind, an Electronics and Communication graduate, has had a distinguished 37-year career at ISRO. She has contributed significantly to several nationally important projects, including successful space exploration missions like Chandrayan-1, 2 and 3, and the recent Aditya L1.
Her first assignment at ISRO involved developing sensor processing electronics packages for the successful Indian National Satellite - INSAT-2 series. To date, 40 packages of INSAT-2 have been successfully launched as part of renowned space programmes. Mrs. Arvind has also designed advanced fibre optic-based gyroscopes and MEMS-based sensors for the inertial reference unit and accelerometer.
The accomplished scientist has published over 50 significant papers at leading national and international conferences. She has received a unique patent and has recently applied for another. A member of prestigious forums such as the Instrument Society of India, the Astronautical Society of India, and the Indian Society of Systems for Science and Engineering, Mrs. Arvind has been honoured with several awards for her contributions to space exploration.
During the session, Mrs. Arvind provided a comprehensive overview of India’s progress in space exploration, highlighting ISRO’s critical role. She spoke extensively about recent missions and technological advancements and provided a roadmap of ISRO’s future missions. The session proved to be a rich learning experience, offering attendees first-hand knowledge about ISRO's cutting-edge research and its role in advancing global space exploration.
Mrs. Kalpana Arvind concluded the session by stating, “In the vast realms of space exploration, ISRO has achieved the most remarkable breakthroughs, which include Chandrayan 3’s soft landing on the south pole of the lunar surface and the recent Aditya L1 mission exploring the sun. With incredible missions like the Gaganyaan in the pipeline and cutting-edge resources available, the future of space exploration and research in India looks bright.”
Udyam, the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of SVKM’s NMIMS Bengaluru, held a Walkathon to promote mental health awareness on September 21, 2023 . The event, themed “Walk for a Cause: Mental Health Awareness”, was aimed at the students of the School of Business Management.
The Walkathon commenced at the Royal Meenakshi Mall and concluded at Windsor Amulyam, covering a distance of 5 Km. More than 150 students participated, expressing their support for the cause through slogans and banners. To further raise awareness about mental health among the general public, a "Nukkad Natak" or street play, was performed post-walk. The performance was divided into three segments, each focusing on different aspects of mental health. By recreating real-life scenarios faced by youth, the play aimed to highlight the importance of dealing with challenges and emerging victorious.
Professor Janaki Anant, the faculty mentor at Udyam, was guiding the students throughout the event. She encouraged students to share their personal experiences with mental health, providing a safe space for open discussion. The stories shared offered deep insights into the struggles faced by students and their journey towards overcoming them.
The walkathon had brought to light three valuable lessons: the impact of internal and external pressures on mental health, the link between failure, self-doubt, and unhealthy behavioural patterns, and the importance of seeking help to address and overcome trauma. The successful event was a testament to Udyam’s commitment to raising public awareness about mental health and contributing to a more liveable and fair world. It also reflected NMIMS Bangalore’s dedication to creating healthier campuses in these changing times.
NMIMS Bangalore hosted its highly anticipated AD MAD and Best Out of Waste Intercollegiate Competition on September 12, 2023, bringing together exceptionally talented and creative students from various colleges across Bengaluru. The AD MAD competition witnessed teams of 3-5 students displaying their advertising prowess through spontaneous creations on surprise topics. With a maximum preparation time of 15 minutes, the advertisement performances ranged from 60 seconds to 3 minutes. The judges evaluated participants based on their spontaneity, content, topic adherence, on-stage presentation, coordination, and overall appeal. The participants captivated the audience with their originality and creativity, utilising various forms of advertising such as skits, jingles, slogans, banners, and innovative presentations.
In the Best Out of Waste competition, teams of 3-4 students showcased their resourcefulness by crafting innovative and useful products from household and stationery waste. The judging criteria focused on creativity, innovation, explanation, and utility. Participants demonstrated their commitment to eco-friendliness and sustainable practises. The talented teams from the International School of Business & Research (ISBR) emerged as the winners in both categories, securing all the prizes.
NMIMS Bangalore held its convocation ceremony on August 19, 2023, where 200 accomplished graduates from the School of Commerce (SoC), School of Economics (SoE), and School of Science (SoS) were awarded their degrees. NMIMS MBA admission 2025 is open as the shortlist has now been released for all courses. This year, the selection criteria have been modified with an introduction of a competency assessment (CA).
