Campus at a Glance

VIT AP or VIT University, Amravati is a private university that was established in 2017. It is the sister university of the VIT group that has been a forerunner in delivering quality education for 30 years and is the first private university located in the capital region of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati. VIT AP University is located at G-30, Inavolu, beside AP Secretariat Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. It offers 22 courses across 7 streams namely Engineering, Management, Commerce and Banking, Law, and Arts. Some of the popular integrated degrees offered at the university include BBA LL.B, BA LL.B, BSc+MSc, and B.Tech+M.Tech. Apart from the robust teaching pedagogy, VIT AP is also a leader in research and innovation.

VIT AP is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), with an ‘A’ grade. The university has various international collaborations, well-equipped infrastructural facilities, extracurricular activities, etc which make it evident that it focuses on other activities apart from academics. 

VIT AP School of Law is the first law school in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana that has signed an MoU with QS 100-rank universities. The university has claimed to have consistently ranked among the top educational institutes in the country, and the VIT group of institutions have had a proud practice of pursuing knowledge and excellence. We have presented our insights into student life at VIT AP as this assessment will help students make an informed decision by considering both the benefits and drawbacks of the university. 

VIT AP NIRF Ranking

VIT AP still did not make it to the NIRF Ranking list, but VIT Vellore is ranked #11 in Engineering, #8 in Universities and #17 in Overall ranking. The university has ranked #1 in the State Emerging University by Outlook Ranking. 

Our Take:

As VIT AP is a new university, it has not yet made it to the NIRF Ranking list, however, VIT universities are very popular in India as they offer great education and placement opportunities. It is expected that VIT AP will soon start featuring in the NIRF rankings.

VIT AP Academia & Batch Size

VIT AP provides a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The courses are created in a way that provides students with a thorough understanding of their respective professions, as well as hands-on experience and practical exposure. VIT AP has 6 schools under which it offers various courses in different streams.

Courses Offered

For admission into VIT AP, candidates need to appear and clear the entrance examination of VITEEE. The entire teaching-learning process at the university is concentrated around six schools.

Scholarship

VIT AP offers scholarships and awards every year to needy students either on the basis of academic performance or financial background. The scholarships are also provided to rural and foreign students. The students of Rural Andhra Pradesh get free education aid based on their ranks at the district level. In addition to the top-rank holders of VITEEE and GATE, scholarships are also provided to students who excel in extracurricular activities. Financial support and research associateships at VIT AP are being extended to the students, who want to do their project work or research in partner universities and institutions abroad under the Semester Abroad Programme (SAP). The scholarships for UG and PG students are different and their details are given below. 

VIT AP Merit Scholarships for UG (B.Com and BA) Courses

• GV Merit Scholarship: Any board topper from all over India will get a 100% scholarship for all the years of the UG degree programme.
• Tmt. Rajeswari Ammal Merit Scholarship: Any district topper from all over India will get a 50% scholarship for all the years of the UG degree programme. However, if the district topper is a girl, she will get an additional 25% scholarship (making it a 75% scholarship).

VIT AP Merit Scholarships for PG Non-engineering Courses

• G. V. PG Merit Scholarship: A student will get a 100% full merit scholarship if he/ she has secured a CGPA of 9.0 or 90% and above (whichever is applicable) in the 6 Semesters/ Three Years of the qualifying UG examination.
• Rajeswari PG Merit Scholarship: A 50% scholarship will be given to a candidate who has secured a CGPA of 8.0 or 80% and above (whichever is applicable) in the 6 Semesters/ Three Years of the qualifying UG examination and an additional 25% for a girl candidate making it a 75% scholarship.

Our Take:

The students have stated that the fee structure at VIT AP is similar to that of other private universities but the environment of the college is not up to the mark. The scholarship facilities provided to the students are great for those who belong to economically weaker sections. VIT AP offers diverse courses but the fees is not affordable for everyone.

VIT AP Infrastructure

With a fast-growing 200-acre campus in the heart of Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, the VIT AP provides a comfortable and enthusiastic life on campus. The university campus also has two fully functional blocks and three more are coming up shortly. The aim is to provide students with a green, educational, and recreational space where learning is made meaningful and enjoyable. 

   

Students at VIT AP are encouraged to participate in both indoor and outdoor sports for their physical and mental well-being for which it provides:

Hostel

There are 3 hostels for boys and one for girls which are highly secured and well guarded. Only VITians and VIT-authorized personnel are allowed inside the hostels. Each hostel room has a cot, chair, study table and cupboard and the resident wardens are available 24×7. Provision stores are located in the hostel where students can buy essentials such as mattresses, pillows, buckets, mugs, locks, stationeries, books, and soaps. Both AC and non-AC rooms are available. The type of room is allocated on a first-come first serve basis as per availability once the hostel fee is paid in full. The highlights of VIT AP hostels mentioned below:

Library

The VIT AP library is spread over an area of 1470 sq. mt. and it is centrally air-conditioned and Wi-Fi-enabled with CCTV surveillance. The total seating capacity inside the library is 430. It has three reading halls, one reference cum periodical section, three discussion rooms, and one digital library with 15 computers as major constituents of the library infrastructure. The Library functions from 9 AM to 7 PM on all days excluding university holidays and during examination time, it remains open from 9 AM to 9 PM. The library resources comprise books (Text and References), e-books, print journals, e-journals, CDs & DVDs, magazines, newspapers (Different Languages) and back volumes.   

Laboratories

VIT AP has several laboratories for various courses and each laboratory is well-equipped to serve the requirements of the respective programme. With state-of-the-art facilities, the laboratories are a place for the students to practise, experiment, and innovate.

   

Cafeteria

The university has a cafeteria where students can take full meals or quick bites between classes. The VIT AP cafeteria serves a wide array of good and hygienic food to all the members.

Health Centre

The medical needs of the students are taken care of by a fully equipped Health Centre on the VIT AP campus along with an ambulance facility in association with Manipal Hospitals, Vijayawada.

   

Transportation

VIT AP provides bus services to its students. The buses are safe, secure, and driven by responsible people. Day scholars can avail the bus facility from Vijayawada, Guntur, and Tenali.

 

Bank & ATM

On-campus banking facility is made available to the VIT AP association comprising faculty, students, and staff. The bank and the ATM are located in conveniently accessible locations.

Guest House

The VIT AP guest houses have a clean and hygienic ambience and are professionally managed. It offers a 24-hour check-in/ check-out facility for the convenience of the guests.

Our Take:

The hostel fees are quite high as VIT AP is a private university. The infrastructural facilities provided by the university are top-notch. Students especially like the university library as it has vast resources of books related to the courses and the library also accommodates several research journals and articles. The food quality is quite good according to the students. VIT AP University needs to increase the number of female hostels so that more female students can be admitted to the university. 

VIT AP Internships & Placements

The placement cell at VIT AP is called the Career Development Centre. To ensure the successful placement of the students, the cell provides various training activities like soft skills, aptitude tests, resume building, coding tests, group discussions, and mock interviews. The university also arranges meetings with professional trainers and alumni to prepare the students for interviews in technical and HR aspects. VIT AP provides a number of internship programmes where students can learn about professional fields and get first-hand experience in the work environment even before they reach the actual placements. As the university has a network with corporates and other universities across the globe, it enables the students to gain experience needed for their respective job areas while being interns. 

Internship

Internship opportunities are provided to the students of VIT AP during the summer break. Following this pattern, students now register themselves for internships right from their first year of joining a course at VIT AP. Most students of the university are doing internships in MNCs. They also have enrolled in international internships in countries like Europe, Colombo, Bahrain and the USA. 

Placement

The students of VIT AP are getting placed at their dream companies. In the placement offer, 3836 students were offered jobs with a Cost of Company (CTC) of 5.5 lakhs and above per annum. More than 386 companies have offered placements and students have multiple choices to land their ideal company or job role. They can choose from various streams including IT Services, product consulting, banking, and Core Engineering companies among other options. These placement opportunities allow the students to freely select the offer that is in their area of interest.

Our Take:

VIT AP has a good placement cell that works together so that the students are placed at the top companies with higher salary packages. The internship opportunities are also great and the international internships help students with hands-on experience and practical application of everything they have learned. However, the total dream offers of VIT AO witnessed a drop in 2023 and the university needs to improve in this area.  

VIT AP Diversity and Demographics

VIT AP has international collaborations and has signed MoUs with a few international universities. For example, the university signed an MoU with the State University of New York (SUNY), Binghamton, USA for the Data Science programme on February 8th 2023. The B.Sc M.Sc dual-degree course and M.Sc in Data Science are conducted by the School of Advanced Sciences, at VIT AP. The MoU will facilitate various academic pathways for VIT AP students in international arenas.

Our Take:

The university is doing a great job by signing up MoUs and establishing international academic partners. The students of VIT AP get the opportunity for joint curriculum development. 

VIT AP Faculty/ College Administration & Management

The student-to-faculty ratio at VIT AP is 3067:265. The faculty is well-experienced and has all the necessary skills to teach the students. Most of the teachers are from the VIT Vellore campus so their teaching methods are well-received and appreciated. The faculty of VIT AP helps to improve the aptitude of the students and also prepares them for interviews along with the main course. The structure of the courses makes the students industry-ready. 

Our Take:

The faculty is overall experienced and helpful. However, some students have complained that the semester exams are sometimes tough, which makes it difficult for them to score high GPAs. 

VIT AP Location

VIT AP is located near Vijayawada, 15 km away from Vijayawada City and 35 km away from Guntur City. The nearest railway station to the university campus is Vijayawada Junction Railway Station which is 18.3 km away. The nearest bus stop is Mangalagiri Bus Stop which is located at a distance of 16.9 km. Vijayawada International Airport is the nearest airport and the distance between the airport and VIT AP campus is 37.3 km. Students can hire a cab or an auto to reach the campus gate.

Our Take:

Near the VIT AP campus, there is a bus stop, a railway station and an airport which makes it quite accessible. They are not too far from the campus and students can hire a taxi from the airport or railway station to reach the campus. 

VIT AP Expectation vs Reality CollegeDekho Verdict

VIT AP is one of the four campuses under VIT Vellore University started by the VIT Group of Institutions. The university offers high-quality education, maintains a well-equipped and modern campus, and consistently excels in placements. Furthermore, students benefit from a variety of international academic partners and international internships.

However, when compared to other VITs or VIT Vellore, the university still needs to work on its curriculum and placement opportunities. These gaps can also be attributed to the fact that VIT AP is newly established and it will need some time to reach up to the standards of other VIT colleges.
