Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship

Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship 2025 is awarded annually to one Indian scholar on a merit basis, and it is considered one of the most prestigious grants available in that year. This fellowship is granted by the Government of India to enable a scholar to carry out research or study as a Junior Research Fellow in St. Antony’s College, Oxford. The fellowship is designed to encourage specialization in Modern Indian Studies within the fields of History, Political Science, and Economics. 

Candidates must have a consistently high academic record with at least 60% or a Ph.D. degree in the relevant subject, or published work of equivalent merit that has attracted considerable attention. This fellowship is meant for young scholars in the age group of 30-40 years. On award or discharge of the Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship, one is entitled to receive one return air travel allowance in economy class.This allowance is also extended to your spouse, provided they reside with you in the UK continuously for one year. However, if your spouse accompanies you, you will be responsible for covering their living expenses, as the fellowship funds are allocated for a single individual.

The fellowship is awarded annually and may be renewed for an additional year based on your academic performance at the university and financial need.

To qualify for the Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship, you must meet several eligibility criteria:

1. Academic Qualifications

• Maintain a consistent academic record.
• Secure a minimum of 60% in post-graduation.
• Hold a Ph.D. degree with a specialization in Economics, History, or Political Science.

2. Additional Requirements

• Citizenship: You must be an Indian national currently residing in India.
• Age: You must be between 30 and 40 years old.
• Experience: A minimum of three years of teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level is required.

Note: If you have studied abroad for more than six months, you must reside in India for at least three consecutive years before applying. Additionally, you must provide specific dates indicating your period of stay in India.

Applications for the Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship are accepted online. As a prospective applicant, you must register on the official MHRD website.

Required Documents

When submitting your application, you must upload the following documents:

• Academic Certificates: Self-attested copies of degrees and certificates from all previous examinations, including proof of date of birth.
• Foreign Degrees (if applicable): If you hold a foreign degree or diploma, you must provide proof of equivalence certified by the Competent Authority.
• Experience Certificate: A letter or certificate confirming your employment and teaching experience.
• Research Proposal: A detailed study or research plan (minimum 500 words) justifying the relevance of your research in the UK.
• Photograph & Signature: A recent passport-size photograph and signature, with dimensions of 200x230 pixels and a maximum file size of 530 KB each.

After successfully submitting your application along with the required documents, the list of candidates shortlisted for interviews will be published on the MHRD Ministry’s website. Additionally, shortlisted applicants will receive a confirmation email.

Meeting the eligibility criteria and submitting the application for the Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship does not guarantee selection. The MHRD selection committee carefully evaluates each application and compiles a shortlist of candidates.

Shortlisted applicants receive an invitation letter for an individual interview session. After the interview, the committee announces the final selected candidate, whose name is displayed on the MHRD Ministry website. The committee’s decision is final and cannot be challenged.
