About IIPS Mumbai

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, was established in July 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations. The institute serves as a regional centre for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. Under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, IIPS Mumbai was declared as a 'Deemed to be University' on August 14, 1985. IIPS Mumbai is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2022

The IIPS Mumbai Courses are offered under seven distinguished departments of the institute. The popular courses at IIPS Mumbai include MA/M.Sc in Population Studies, M.Sc in Biostatistics and Demography, PhD in Population Studies or Biostatistics and Demography, etc. The IIPS Mumbai admission is based on an entrance test conducted by International Institute for Population Sciences Hyderabad. For PhD admission at IIPS Mumbai, a CSIR/ UGC NET/ SLET (including JRF) is required. IIPS Mumbai Courses and Admission 2025

International Institute for Population Sciences Mumbai offers courses at postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral levels. The master’s courses are of two year duration covering all important aspects of the respective areas of study. The IIPS Mumbai syllabus at PG level is designed as per the UGC Credit Based Choice System. The IIPS Mumbai courses fee ranges from Rs 22,000 to Rs 32,000 per year. 

The institute was re-named to its present title with an idea to expand its academic courses and activities. Apart from the academic courses, students are also encouraged to use qualitative techniques and other innovative methods for their dissertation and research. IIPS Mumbai Application Process 

The online application process for International Institute for Population Sciences Mumbai admissions involve the following steps:

  • Visit the IIPS Mumbai official website and click on New Registration. 
  • Fill in all the required fields in the online registration form.
  •  The next step is to upload a passport size photograph (ONLY JPG/JPEG/PNG, Max 1 MB is accepted). 
  • Upload scanned Aadhar cards and proof of DOB (ONLY PDF, Max 1 MB required).
  • Click on the Preview & Submit button, and click on Submit after the final review of application.

IIPS Mumbai Scholarships

Scholarships or fellowships at IIPS Mumbai are offered under various schemes of the Government of India. Some of the IIPS Mumbai scholarships are given below:

  • Government of India Fellowship of Rs 5,000 per month is awarded to students pursuing master’s programmes at IIPS Mumbai. 
  • For Indian PhD students with NET, JRF and related qualifications at IIPS Mumbai, Rs 31,000 per month for 1st and 2nd years and Rs 35,000 per month for 3rd and 4th years  is offered. Such PhD fellowship also offers a contingency grant of Rs 10,000 per year for the first 2 years and Rs 20,500 per year for the third year.
