The university also has a Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) to foster higher studies in remote areas.

Currently, it has 38 PG departments in the faculties of arts, commerce, education and science & technology. Similarly, in the ‘Overall’ category, Kuvempu University ranked in the 151-200 rank band in 2023 which was earlier in the 101-150 rank band. The declining rankings can be a sign of increasing competition due to the participation of new institutions in NIRF or a decline in its performance. The university’s administration should take decisive action to improve the scenario.

Students can choose among a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across multiple streams. Kuvempu University’s DDE courses provide ample opportunities to students located in rural areas to pursue higher education. However, the university can diversify its course offerings and specialisations to cater to the current needs of the students.

Classrooms and Labs: Kuvempu University has large and spacious classrooms well-furnished with ICT facilities. Hostel: Kuvempu University provides separate hostel facilities to male and female students. There are seven hostels on the main campus and two on the PG Centre Kadur. As per students’ reviews, each hostel differs in terms of facilities but offers basic amenities such as tables, chairs, beds, and common washrooms. The hostels are affordable and offer hygienic meals. 

University Art Gallery and Museum: The campus adorns a beautiful art gallery and Keladi Museum. They serve as the attraction centre of the university comprising rare collections of historical objects and scriptures such as sculptures, idols, tools, palm leaf manuscripts, etc. 

Activities: According to the students’ feedback on multiple platforms, Kuvempu University conducts different extracurricular activities like fests, sports competitions, events, presentations, etc. One such event is Sahyadri Utsav in which students participate in various regional and cultural activities. 

Canteen: Kuvempu University has a well-furnished canteen on the campus with a seating capacity of 50 people. The canteen provides tasty food at a reasonable price. 

Our Take:

The historically arresting campus of Kuvempu University has all the basic facilities for students. However, students have opined that the hostels are not maintained properly. Further, mess food is also not up to the mark. A large number of students have also complained about the poor wifi connection a the campus.

Kuvempu University makes efforts to provide internship and placement opportunities at local and global levels. As per students’ feedback, the university organises placement fairs and assists students in finding internships.

The university has a placement cell which looks after the job needs of the students. However, the internship and placement opportunities at Kuvempu University are extremely limited. The placement rate is low compared to the current batch size which is a cause for concern. The university should put more effort into increasing the placement rate and producing more opportunities for students.

Talking about the administration of  Kuvempu University, the Governor of Karnataka is the Chancellor of the university. Other administrative members include the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Deans, Directors of Schools, etc. However, the allegations related to corruption over VC and others have created a doubtful impression on the students’ minds for the administration and management of the university. 

Our Take:

Kuvempu University faculty appears qualified and efficient. We have determined that the faculty is genuinely interested in providing its students with a quality education. However, irregularities in declaring results, and corruption in the recruitment of guest faculty and staff on a contract basis at the university have posed heavy repercussions on the reputation of the administration and management of the university.

The main campus of Kuvempu University is Jnana Sahyadri which is located at Shankaraghatta, Shimoga, Karnataka. The university also has two PG centres to provide education to rural youth at Basavanagar, Kadur and Chikkamagaluru.
