Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, also known as MKBU, was founded in 1978 by the Government of Gujarat. It is an affiliating university with more than 100 colleges and PG centres under its umbrella. These affiliated colleges and institutions offer various science, arts, commerce, management, and law courses under the supervision of the university. The university is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a ‘B’ grade. Moreover, it is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The university offers several PG and doctoral-level programmes in the fields of arts, science, commerce, business administration, and computer applications under its 20 university PG departments and four recognised institutes. All these MKBU courses are approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university has also introduced various self-financed and PG diploma programmes under its PG departments.
The MKBU campus is spread across 269 acres and across three locations. The university is known for its high-profile research initiatives in the most relevant areas such as nanotechnology, marine ecology, Intellectual Property Rights and its management, and Entrepreneurship. Both the Government of India and Gujarat have recognised several departments at MKBU as Centres of Excellence and Science and Technology Cells.
