Established by the Chhattisgarh legislature in 2005, Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University, commonly known as PSSOU Bilaspur, is the foremost university in India and a highly regarded centre for teaching and research. This university was named after Pandit Sundarlal Sharma, a freedom fighter of the Chhattisgarh region. Pandit Sundarlal Sharma Open University is the only university in Chhattisgarh to provide education through an open and distance education system. This university provides education to remote and tribal areas so that more people can get the benefits of higher education.

The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).   PSSOU offers more than 20 courses in various streams at UG, PG, and doctoral levels. The PSSOU admission 2022 has started for UG courses. Candidates seeking PSSOU B.Ed admission must appear for the entrance test conducted by the university. 

The PSSOU UG admission to courses such as BA, B.Sc, and B.Com courses is purely merit-based on the candidate's performance in their Class 12 board examination. In contrast, the PSSOU PG admissions are based on candidates' performance in their graduation degree in the relevant field.

PSSOU Application Process 2022 

The PSSOU application process generally starts in January and July every year with the release of the PSSOU application forms. The selection criteria for different courses are different in the university and for different courses. The PSSOU application process is completely online. To complete the PSSOU application form, candidates need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

• Visit the PSSOU admission portal (https://www.pssou.ac.in/)
• Select the programme and fill the registration form with the required information, such as educational details, personal details, and contact address.
• Scanned signatures and color photographs of the candidate must be uploaded along with the PSSOU application form. To avoid any difficulty in the admission process, the candidates are advised to keep all the required documents, such as birth certificate, category certificate, last qualifying degree certificate, etc., handy.
• Finally, submit the application form. And pay the PSSOU application fee via any online payment method such as net banking, credit and debit cards, BHIM UPI, Paytm, etc. Candidates are advised to keep the receipt of the fee paid as proof for further reference. If the confirmation page is not generated after completing the fee payment, the transaction is canceled, and the deducted amount is refunded to the candidate's account. Then candidates have to make transactions again. 
• Eligible candidates will be invited for the entrance exam for PhD. The PhD aspirants have to fill their entrance exam score in the PSSOU application form 2022, and upon shortlisting, they will be directly called for group discussion and personal interview. Admission is granted on the basis of the candidate's performance in all the selection rounds.
• PSSOUEE is a computer-based test, which is mandatory to qualify to be eligible for admission. Upon qualifying for the examination, Candidates are invited for viva-voce by the PSSOU admission committee (the admission committee is different for different courses). The selection of candidates for the PSSOU admission is made based on their overall performance in the last qualifying examination, the PSSOUEE marks, and the viva-voce marks.
• PhD aspirants are exempted from PSSOUEE only if they have qualified for national-level entrance examinations such as UGC/ CSIR NET (JRF) examination, SET, GATE (with a valid score), or Teacher Research Fellowship.
• For admission to the B.Ed course, the selection for admission is made based on the performance in the entrance exam conducted by the university. Merit lists are prepared for each category. So, candidates belonging to categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PWD, and EWS are eligible for marks concession as per the approved PSSOU admission Policy.

The PSSOU cut-off list will be released by the university for all its doctoral programmes based on the entrance test score. For admission to a PhD course in PSSOU, the university releases its own cut-off based on the PSSOUEE marks. Candidates seeking PSSOU admission must know what marks and ranks they must secure to get a seat in the desired PSSOU programmes. Meeting the PSSOU admission cut-off is mandatory for candidates to get enrolled in PSSOU.

There are several PSSOU Scholarship peogrammes for its students. Not only scholarships, but the university also financially supports the students with various fellowship and award programmes. The PSSOU scholarship facilities for UG and PG students help the students with financial assistance and reward academic performances. The state and central governments also provide scholarships based on the last qualifying exam. Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: Merit-cum-Means scholarship is available for meritorious students whose family's gross income does not exceed Rs 2,50,000/- per annum. 

The PSSOU campus covers around 70 acres. The campus is located at Bilaspur Koni-Birkona Road, Post-Birkona, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh - 495009. Administrative buildings, academic buildings, examination buildings, bank, library buildings, canteen, officer's buildings, furnished hostel, guest house, and teaching and non-teaching lodgings are all part of the university's well-planned infrastructure. The PSSOU campus is lush and green, with beautiful trees and blooming plants. There are two tiny ponds on each side of the university's main entry gate, which improve the water level in the surrounding region as well as the attractiveness of the campus.

• Hostel – The PSSOU Bilaspur hostel is spacious and well-furnished. Each hostel has live-in wardens and a faculty member who administers the accommodation. It is to be noted that admission to PSSOU doesn’t ensure guaranteed hostel accommodation due to the limited capacity of the hostels. PSSOU offers accommodation to the applicants based on different factors. 
• Cafeteria – The cafeteria facilities are also provided by the university.
• Library – The PSSOU library building occupies an area of 691.16 square meters.  The PSSOU library is also a member of the network of libraries in Bilaspur and beyond, granting access for searches of entire networked catalogues and inter-library loans. At the library, students can also access the PSSOU study material to support their studies.
• Guest House – The PSSOU campus has guest houses. All of these are dedicated to accommodating guests of the PSSOU workshops, seminars, conferences, and training programmes, organised by the university, its centres, or departments.
